Back up camera/warning worth its weight in gold!

Back up camera/warning worth its weight in gold!

It sounds like we agree, dco, you were doing as suggested; whenever you are in a situation where you can logically and easily back in first, do it. In this specific instance you used your best judgement and had a reason not to back in, and didn't. You applied appropriate, simple logic, seems...

Windows down with the remote? (Global Open)

Peter - I would think that it would also open your sun roof at the same time? It quickly lets out all the hot air from the vehicle as you are returning to it on a hot day. A nice feature.

Back up camera/warning worth its weight in gold!

Not really fear-mongering, just trying to convey the potential gravity of one's actions. It is easy to adopt an attitude that it will always happen to somebody else, and not to me. The statistics are easy to dismiss as merely numbers to most of us, but they are way more than numbers to the...

Back up camera/warning worth its weight in gold!

I don't find it confusing at all. It's an easy, simple, straight forward, logical decision-making process... :hammer: If it's possible and easy to back in first, you do that. If it's not, then you don't. :hammer: Fleet drivers who have taken advanced driver training are taught to do...

    2015 Sport & Side mirrors

Precisely! There is already a wire harness going there for puddle lights and turn signals, it already pivots, so wires and a motor more.

Back up camera/warning worth its weight in gold!

Well, RG, I would (and do) step aside in any case. I do not uneccessarily relinquish the responsibility for my own well-being to a stranger for any reason. Why would you, the downside is grave, the upside of two side steps is obvious? I did not know a municipality that banned backing into a...

Back up camera/warning worth its weight in gold!

You have the general idea- there is much more risk backing from an area you likely haven't seen, than one you just looked at and checked when driving past it in preparation for backing into it. It's taught in Advanced Driver training, and, unfortunately, should be in basic driver training too...

Back up camera/warning worth its weight in gold!

No spanking needed. :) I would suggest you follow your own advice, and not be so quick to judge someone and falsely accuse them as being judgemental, especially when they haven't been. I would call your attention to my words " …the most common driving mistake I see...driving forward into a...

    2015 Sport & Side mirrors

It's a nice feature to have them fold (even entry-level vehicles have this feature now), and reduces the potential for damage, particularly against vertical posts and garage door jambs, they just fold back or forward instead of breaking off or damaging the door frame (expensive to repair). I...

    2015 Sport & Side mirrors

I'm in Canada, and the offerings are different here, but I have the same setup as JE, in case you are Canadian too. I consider it nice to have, but a frilly extra, a failed attempt to emulate a more upscale vehicle, when something practical or essential, such as auto wipers, or rear camera...

Back up camera/warning worth its weight in gold!

It's the most common driving mistake I see - driving forward into a parking spot when you could have backed in. It's what prevented such happenings before backup cameras were in use. Thanks for your story - glad to hear of the good outcome - many are not so lucky.

How to get better Gas Mileage?

I do follow what you are saying about applying more throttle when upshifting, Kiliona, but I don't think that gets done in actual driving conditions in these strictly controlled engines. That might be because it falls outside the range that the transmission controller allows. I think a source of...

Curb rash on 20" polished wheel.

Luker - those look like they could be fingerprints where someone at the factory touched the raw aluminum wheel and the acid in their fingers prevented a good adhesion of the finish(?)

Curb rash on 20" polished wheel.

They could make rubber curbs, but wouldn't it be smarter to put rubber around the tire at the rim? Well, yes it would, and some tires have exactly that, and it would have prevented the type of rim damage (light scrapes) shown in the photos above in post #20 . I know Michelin's have it...

How to get better Gas Mileage?

Yeah, octane and energy content of fuel are two different and distinct parameters, like your height, and your weight. Higher octane does not equal higher energy content. In fact, if ethanol were used to boost the octane in the fuel (ethanol has a lower energy content, but a higher octane rating...

How to get better Gas Mileage?

Kiliona you misread my post regarding carburettors. You misquoted me in your response, please reread to see what I actually said. Hope I can fill some gaps in your understanding, then you might be better prepared to dispel, instead of create, some myths, since that is what you are apparently...

    Oil level overfill?

Good point, it is possible that the OP did not use the dipstick properly, and got a high reading as a result. Of course, proper use of the dipstick (wiping it off and re-inserting it) eliminates such an error, no matter how long the engine has been sitting. PleasureTime, did you wipe the...

    Oil level overfill?

The oil level, as measured on the dipstick, will only increase, not decrease, in time after shutdown, when you let it sit. The oil drains down out of the engine and into the oil pan, which is where the dipstick takes its measurement from. Waiting longer to take the measurement will therefore...

    Oil level overfill?

Two possibilities, neither good; that amount is way over the tolerance for overfilling (and there really is none over the "full" line). 1 - the dealer overfilled with oil - not good for a number of reasons. 2 - The dealer filled it properly, and some contaminant (coolant, fuel etc) has gone...

Water pump failure leads to dead engine

Off topic, but I'd like to hear the technical etiology of what happened, if they give you one. Particularly the order in which they think things happened, and which was the original failure that led to the rest. Some engines (aluminum block) are quite capable of running for several hundred...

Water pump failure leads to dead engine

Agree, LD50. Not only is it out of warranty, but it was bought as a used vehicle, not new. BIG difference. Not that the outcome would necessarily be different, but with a new vehicle you have spent a bigger chunk of change which gives more wiggle room, and you also know that the vehicle has not...

    Just wow

Yeah - those braces were likely put there to compensate for the lack of the support and impact-absorbtion of the seats. The seats might even be better at that job than the braces at least, more thoroughly tested in crashes. In order to be effective, they need to crush and collapse to absorb...
