This morning on my way to work, I noticed that it didn't matter if I had the temp control on heat, or cool......it blows out HOT! Is rotary switch bad, or it there some kind of resistor box that went bad? Any info would be great. It's a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer. Thanks

Need advice for getting more power when I rebuild my 5.0.

I've got a 97' Mountaineer with a 5.0 V8 and AWD. It's got about 142,000 miles on it, and the motor is starting to burn quite a bit of oil. I've rebuild several small and big block chevy motors, but I've never messed with any ford motors....and never messed with fuel injected motors. I...

What are some symptoms of bad lower ball-joints?

I was wondering if some of you guys could give me some info on lower ball joints. How do you know when the lower ball-joints need replaceing? Any kinds of vibrations or sounds that would indicate bad lower ball-joints? How many miles should you be able to get on your truck before you have to...

HELP!!.....Grinding noise coming from front end! Any Ideas?

I did all the work myself, so I'm sure the work was done right. The only thing that I had done by a shop was rebuilding the front diff. I've had the left and right side of the front apart several times, and everything has been put back together correctly. I've looked at both rotors and I...

HELP!!.....Grinding noise coming from front end! Any Ideas?

Both Hub bearing assemblys and CV Shafts are brand new. Everything up front seems tight. The only thing that I haven't replaced is the lower ball joints, but I don't think they would be causing this problem.

HELP!!.....Grinding noise coming from front end! Any Ideas?

I've got a 97' Mountaineer (AWD w/5.0 v8) w/ 135,000 miles on it. I've got a horrible grinding noise coming from the front of my truck which feels like it's coming from the drivers side. I can feel it through the floor at speeds around 20 mpg (only if I'm turning). I've replaced about every...

    How to test Tranny solenoids?

I want to test the EPC solenoid and the other shift solinoids in my tranny on my 97' Mountaineer. I'm pretty sure it's got the 5R55E transmission in it. Are the solenoids all 12v DC? Can I just give them power and listen for a "click" to know if they are working or not? Thanks

    Hard Shifting.....even after I removed the B&M ShiftPlus ??

Well the problem is that even after I removed the B&M shiftplus.....it still shifts hard as hell. So hard that it feels like it's going to break something.

    Hard Shifting.....even after I removed the B&M ShiftPlus ??

What does the EPC soleniod actually do? I tried unhooking the battery for a few hours...but that didn't help. The 1st to 2nd shift is extremely hard....all the rest are pretty soft. Could it be anything else besides the EPC soleniod? Thanks

Need bearing and seal info on 97' AWD front diff.

My transfer case is actually father back. It's right under where the passengers feet would be in the back seat. I don't think it's coming from there. I had the truck up on jackstands and with all 4 tires turning, I didn't hear any noises coming from the T-case....it was more towards the front...

Need bearing and seal info on 97' AWD front diff.

Yes, I removed the front driveshaft and dove it around.....the noise was still there. It has to be a rotating part of some kind......they only thing left that I haven't replaces are the half shafts with the CV joints coming out of the diff. Is there any way to get some lube inside the CV...

Need bearing and seal info on 97' AWD front diff.

There is no switch, or any way to switch from 4-Hi to Auto. It's full time AWD, there is no swich that controlls any part of the transfer case. I've never seen any Mountaineers that have that option....maybe the Explorers are different?? Yes, I pulled the front driveshaft out and it didn't...

Need bearing and seal info on 97' AWD front diff.

My Mountaineer is AWD (all wheel drive). You can't switch between 2 and 4 wheel drive. I did all of the repairs myself, so I know the parts were put in right. The noise is coming from the drivers side.....almost like it's right under my feet. Could a bad CV joint on one of the halfshaft be...

Tips & Advice for removing front differential?

I only had to remove the passenger side CV shaft to get the diff out. I rotated it by hand and it felt smooth. It slid in and out without any binding. I did not pull out the drivers side (where the noise is coming from) CV shaft.....so maybe that's my problem. It shouldn't be to hard to...
