Oil to use in 96 Explorer A/C compressor?

I've read that I'm to use 7oz of PAG 46 oil in my A/C system I'm rebuilding. Any opinions on this? Is there an easier way of adding the oil? Some guy at Autozone said to add a can of some sort of oil stuff through the Low Pressure side while the system is under vacuum. Any thoughts on...

Situation; 1. Compressor is seized (over the winter) is being removed and replaced. 2. Drier and orifice are being removed and replaced. Question: Typically, do you need to remove and replace condenser? Is it a pain to R&R the condenser? (yeah, I know- it's relative to your skill)...

    Micron Gauge?

I need to evacuate my A/C system after replacing the compressor. I'll be using one of those powered vacuum pumps from Harbor Freight. I understand I need a micron gauge to measure vacuum. Those things are expensive.....really expensive. Any ideas where to get one that's less expensive...

    A/C line blown- is "recovery"necessary?

I think my low pressure A/C line has a crack in it and leaked so the system doesn't work (amongst other things) If it has leaked is a "recovery" of the R 134a necessary or do I just flush the system when I do the repair?

    How do I R&R A/C compressor '96 Explorer?

Does anyone have a step by step process for replacing the compressor in a '96 Explorer? I think it involves flushing and replacing a bunch of fancy parts and seals. I've read a little about it earlier. It doesn't sound too terribly hard (sort of) but I'll need a good instruction set...

    A/C compressor seized?

The A/C compressor on my 96 Explorer apparently has seized over the Winter. When I turn the dial to A/C the compressor clutch kicks on but the shaft to the compressor won't turn so the clutch smokes. Of course I shut the A/C off. The A/C has always worked perfectly until now. Any ideas...

    Change 96 front wheel bearings?

My 96 Explorer has a rumbling sound in the front driver side. I assume it's the wheel bearings. I just had an alignment and also the rear tires were rotated to the front. The rumbling was present before I had any of the aforementioned work done. The rumbling isn't that bad....but is...

    Towing with '96 Explorer 4.0L ???

I destroyed something in my '91 (either trans or rear) after towing too much weight. The car rumbles louder and louder the faster the rear wheels turn. IT IS NOT the drive shaft U joints (or whatever those + sign shaped things are called). Not wanting that to happen again to the '96 I just...

    Fuel line location?

I need to know the location of the fuel line in the engine compartment. Does it split into 2 braided hoses near the power steering unit? If it does split into 2 braided hoses are those 2 hoses used to directly supply fuel to each side of the fuel injection manifold? (i.e. 1 hose...

    Vibration problems?

Car- Explorer XLT- 1991 Odometer- 191,000 I'm fairly certain I've got excessive vibration in the front wheels/bearings which has recently developed. It "feels" like I'm pulling a heavy load...like the drive train is working very hard. The Vibration begins at around 20 MPH. With...

    Heat output is low

Folks: Our 1991 Explorer XLT (187,000 miles) heater output isn't hot enough. Yes, it's warm with a slight tendency to get "burn your hand hot" when the engine RPM is over 2,000. However, at speeds around 45 mph or less the heater output is only slightly above warm. Under heavy load, like...
