How to: The Comprehensive Brown Wire Mod Thread

Gonna beat a dead horse some more, but iv been looking over the wiring diagram in OnDemand and iv had a thought: Instead of doing all of this extra work with wiring and adding switches, could you not either space the front speed sensor out slightly, changing the frequency of the signal to the...

    PA6731 gap guard Install Instructions

So iv installed the front gap guards from performance accessories kit PA6731 onto my truck, but the rears are kinda throwing me for a loop. The rear set looks like they could fit on either side, but im sure they are left and right. If anyone has a pic of a set installed or the actual...

List of Useful Threads Everything I know about the M5OD-R1 & BW1354M

Im almost done my conversion but I'v hit a snag with the PCM. I managed to find one from a local JY from a 96 Ex amazingly, however when i went to install it, I noticed the manual trans PCM wants to be mounted upside down in respect to how the automatic PCM came out. If you look where the pins...

    4R55E to M5OD-R1HD conversion underway!

Well, the autotragic finally bit the bullet and decided to pack it in while i was trying to merge onto the highway last week. More specifically the front pump seized and blew the flex plate apart around the mounting flange to the crank. So what better reason to do a 5 speed manual conversion...

    1996 Fuel Filler Neck Conversion

Just to clarify, the main filling hose (Spectra FNH007) is fuel rated and not a radiator hose. That hose is listed as a direct OE replacement for a '97. The only coolant hose is used for the vent pipe, which will be swapped out as soon as I can find rubber fuel line big enough.

List of Useful Threads Everything I know about the M5OD-R1 & BW1354M

Iv been digging around for a thread like this and Im hopping someone can help me. I have a 96 with the 4R55E trans and auto transfer case and Im pricing out a comparison between getting it rebuild (quoted $1500) or just doing the manual conversion. The pedal assembly (6L5Z-2455-BB), clutch...

mileage out of a 4.0 ohv

My '96 has been in our family since '97. My mom bought it second hand off a Ford dealer with 27000km, then my dad took it when she bought an Escape, then he gave it to me when he bought an Edge (we are a Ford family lol). It currently has 360000km+ and I use it every day in the winter, and some...

    help driver side "sag"

2 doors had a mono leaf design IIRC. If your going with one from a JY truck, then you need to make sure the suspension codes are the same between the two.

    Missing front end parts

So the good news is the guy wasn't a complete lunatic since this is "technically" the correct way to remove front CV shafts but still retain the bearing. Of course the proper and safe way is to have the complete shaft installed. Sounds like you just need shafts and a new bearing to continue with...

    Missing front end parts

For clarification, does the bearing currently on your truck have a hole through the center that you can see right through to the other side? If not, I suspect he just removed the shaft and left the CV joint installed to support the bearing.

1996 Speaker Amp Impedance (NON JBL/MACH/RICH GUY VERSION)

Yes, I know. I suppose I should have omitted that last section about the amp. I was trying to avoid the use/don't use amp argument all together by stating that there is no real gain by me bypassing it in my situation, just more wires to cut and solder. My only question is what ohm speakers the...

1996 Speaker Amp Impedance (NON JBL/MACH/RICH GUY VERSION)

So I was in my driver side door today, fixing my inoperable lock button (which turned out to be BOTH arching build up AND broken wires -_-) when I figured I should pull my speaker out and check what resistance they are so I can buy the proper A/M set and not melt the OE amp. To my surprise it...

    Oem thermostat bleeder valve

There is a TSB related to the cooling system making a noise but it described as a 'thumping' noise. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/index.php?threads/loud-thumping-in-coolant-system.417687/

    Oem thermostat bleeder valve

I personally wouldnt try to clean the IAC. IIRC, there may be some how-tos on here or threads warning against it, but im not sure. I would try the cheap/free driving at high RPMs first before I did anything invasive with the IAC.

    Oem thermostat bleeder valve

Did you use a 'liberal' amount of throttle cleaner? What you have essentially done is add un-metered combustible fluid into in dry side of the intake system. Its has undoubtedly washed some carbon (from the EGR system) down around the intake valves and the engine is trying to cough it out by...

    1996 Fuel Filler Neck Conversion

As some of you may or may not know, the 1996 Ex has its own one off version of the fuel filler neck that is not serviceable, available for purchase anymore or manufactured by any aftermarket companies (at least not up here in the Great White North). So this creates a dilemma if yours decides to...

    Terrible Tire Shake

2nd the Road Force balancing. Tires in essence are just round springs, a week spot in the belt can cause vibrations that regular balancing wont fix. Ball joints have to be in fairly bad shape to cause a rotational vibration, they will cause a shimmy or a clunk/click on initial application of the...

    Tubular/round style air box delete

Nope lol. The truck has 360 000km on it so i wasnt expecting any gains. I did it because the stock air box was all distorted where it goes into the rubber inlet tube from years of heat (one rad hose is very close to that area) and over tightening the worm clamp (thats probably my fault)...

leaf spring bushing sizing and suppliers

These are the lift measurements I got after the install and TT using a Hunter alignment machine This is with 3/4 of a tank of gas. LF torsion bar maxed and RF around half. I never bothered with a before measurement since the sag on the left was insane lol

leaf spring bushing sizing and suppliers

http://www.sdtrucksprings.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=8901 I can confirm the above bushings also fit the OME leaf springs. Just pressed them in today with no issues.

    Tubular/round style air box delete

The air box on my truck after years of service and heat, became bent and warped around where the gear clamp secures it to the intake tube. What better excuse to do a little upgrade! Only issue is I have the round/tubular style air box with the internal MAF sensor mounting, so just using the...
