How to: PTU Oil Change (Tons of Pics) 2016 Explorer Sport

Glad it was helpful. If you’re 2 quarts low on transmission fluid, you need to ask yourself where did it go? It doesn’t evaporate. If it’s not dripping under the car, did Ford under fill it? I’m not sure on the transmission on this car. Is it possible for it to get in the engine like the...

How to: PTU Oil Change (Tons of Pics) 2016 Explorer Sport

As the OP on this post, I thought I'd follow up from 126,000 miles. My last change was around 60K so I have 66(ish)K on this run of the oil. Previously, I've changed the PTU oil 3 times up to the 60K change, so this is the 4th change. When I did it at 16,000 miles I ran it around 5K and did...

2016 Explorer Sport - Audio System Build

Still around here and there. You’ll be fine with the PAC. You can do native clean with Forscan hacks to the cars firmware but not necessary with the PAC.

How to: PTU Oil Change (Tons of Pics) 2016 Explorer Sport

Very hard to suck it out unless it’s hot. It’s super sticky and viscous. You’ll do great. I also have a 2016 3.5 Ecoboost. Never heard of a 3/8 plug on the AWD PTU from that year. Hoping you have the right plug.

2016 Explorer Sport - Audio System Build

Actually I feel like my stock drivers put out more bass than my 8”. My 8” is more SQ. I think it’s probably splitting hairs a little. Prob not worth the fab work. I was stuck on round drivers too.

2016 Explorer Sport - Audio System Build

Looks like you got lucky! It’s been a while since I’ve been in there. And I have no idea where my original pictures are. I’ll just say, it’s tricky. If I were to do it over again, I would do a 6 x 9 or a 6 x 8 and not do the 8 inch. It was a pain and I did not enjoy it at all :) The eight...

    SYNC 3 in a 2016 Explorer

I’ll also add. Ford‘s NAV sucks anyway. If you have an android or iPhone plugged in all the time you don’t need a factory nav at all. I wish I had gotten a unit without it to be frank.

    SYNC 3 in a 2016 Explorer

what version is your Sync 3? To be frank I’ve had to roll back to a previous version multiple times as newer firmware’s can create compatibility issues with in car light dimming etc. if it’s working fine don’t worry about it. I realize for a technical person it’s difficult to resist the impetus...

    Explorer hood vibrates

None at all I simply tightened the spring latch mechanism and it got better. But ultimately the hood is very thin aluminum so it’s going to flex somewhat.

2016 Explorer Sport - Audio System Build

Hits as well as a single 10 can. Your neighbor’s aren’t going to hear it but it will rattle the rear view mirror. It will need to be EQ’d a bit to smooth out resonances if you want to fully dial it in. For me I love how it isn’t in the way. I’d prefer two 10’s or a 12 but this is a nice...

2016 Explorer Sport - Audio System Build

I am sure I am way too late to answer this question. You can get rid of the amplifier from the factory if you do a full delete and you were using your own Amplification end to end. I’ve never had an issue and so glad that I got rid of that somy factory amp.

2016 Explorer Sport - Audio System Build

Big apology to you I’m sorry that I missed your post it’s been almost 2 years. Yes I think it was fairly easy to get to them. I put 4 inch speakers in there I believe I’m really glad I did but I had to do some modifications. I believe I wrote about it early in the build

2016 Explorer Sport - Audio System Build

I guess I have missed a bunch of people’s posts. Don’t know how I apologize. Are used all front and rear outputs into my processor. The prompts are generally on the rear channels so you have to keep them and also to hear the rear sensor prompts

As long as your stereo design is putting out unaltered low frequencies on those outputs you can do that no problem.

I feel terrible that I completely missed this post. I apologize I don’t remember the width at all. I forget where I bought the fuse blocks also. I’m so very sorry! I realize this is more than a year later

How to: PTU Oil Change (Tons of Pics) 2016 Explorer Sport

The fluid is supposed to be good at least for about 30,000 miles. When I changed mine and had an oil analysis done on it it was still fine. I would say if I were in your shoes, I would drain it and allow as much a drip out as possible. Let it drain for hours with the driver side cantilevered up...

    SYNC 3 in a 2016 Explorer

@peterk9 is correct. You won’t get ota/WiFi updates from Ford with the upgrade, you’ll have to source the upgrades yourself. To put it in perspective though for the purpose of CarPlay, upgrades aren’t really needed. I actually for stability and compatibility reasons had to downgrade off of the...

2016 Explorer Sport - Audio System Build

Sorry for the late reply! I ran everything from my sound stream Amps to the Sony amp harness (because I removed the Sony Amp), cut the speaker wires and wired into that. Then reused the factory wiring in the doors. Look at post #22. I don’t really mention it in that post but you can see how I...

    Uncomfortable front seats

The biggest comfort modification I have made was reducing the amount of lumbar support because even at the lowest level it was way too much for me. That was a pretty big hack and took some welding but was way worth it
