With a V8 I would try for a Dana 44 - I have seen dana 30s hold up well with 33- 35" tall tires but that's with a careful driver on a lighter vehicle.

Hi Pete depending on your budget /skill level 1 more option for you to consider would be to swap in a GM 700r4 Tranny. much stronger than the factory ford unit, and has more aftermarket support. I would be leery of using a junk yard auto tranny with out rebuilding it first.
