I had a similar problem in an old Golf and ended purchasing a "flat USB cable" and it worked. It put some pressure on the latch, so you had to force it open a bit, but not too much of a hassle. Amazon has a ton of flat cables.

How did you even get FordPass running on your '17? I didn't think you could get it working without SyncConnect which didn't show up in the Explorer until MY2018. Did you install your own modem?

If you enter a number less than 1000, wouldn't that cause your displayed average to drop? Because you're dividing your lower, manually computed MPG by the higher displayed one, that gives you the bias factor in the 900 range, similar to @15Limited's example.

Yes, everything in 360 is available today in one or more packages (or standard on upper trim levels). Ford's intention is to make all these safety features standard in all of their cars and trucks within the next few model years.

That's the way I understand it. And AppLink (or at the least, this Waze app) requires a USB connection since it's mirroring the app from the phone and that amount of data cannot be transferred quickly enough over Bluetooth.
