    From crank/no start to crank/kind of start & codes 226, 327

My '94 Explorer was struggling with starting a couple of weeks ago as it got colder (below 20 degrees). The “check engine light” never came on during this time. The battery was 5-6 years old (Ultima Yellow Top). I replaced the battery with a new Motorcraft battery (group 65) and it started fine...

    94 Explorer engine part identification

I am troubleshooting some starting issues and while checking vacuum lines/hoses, I came across this opening on the left side of the engine towards the back of the engine bay. Does anyone know what it is for? Should it be connected to something or have a cap on it? If a cap, any idea what size? I...

    94 Sport keeps draining battery

I did the above when I was having electrical issues (i.e. power going out, battery dying). Ultimately, the issues were because of the battery cables. They were corroded in multiple spots but I couldn't really tell until I took them off. I replaced those and electrical system has been gravy ever...

1st Gen Front Shock Mounting Nut

I'm replacing the front shocks on a '94 Explorer. Does anyone know the stock nut type/size for the bottom stud? I want to go buy replacement nuts before I take them off in the event that I'm able to do so without breaking the stud. However, I'm going to by the mounting stud replacement kits...

94 Explorer Leaf Springs and U-Bolt Plate

I clicked on 43-967 and then checked the description (shown below). It's on the last line. I usually order from Rockauto or LMC Trucks but when I'm looking for a part, I check multiple sites to compare price and specifications. I was confused because the specs they list for these springs are the...

94 Explorer Leaf Springs and U-Bolt Plate

I'm replacing rear suspension parts on my on 94 Explorer. The leaf springs at the top of the list on Auto and Truck Springs (here) indicate that they are for 1st gen Explorers but also indicate that they are for over the axle. However, my springs sit under the axle. The arch measurement on these...

    94 Explorer Brake Rotors

I’m looking for front brake rotors for my 94 Explorer 4WD w/ABS. I usually order from LMC Trucks but the only two options for brake rotors were 91-92 w/ABS and 91-94 w/o ABS. Checked on an older thread and someone posted that these were decent: Premium Replacement Brake Kit Is there anyone...

'94 Explorer factory amp vs bypassing factory amp

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and installed the bypass harness. The sound is legit.

'94 Explorer factory amp vs bypassing factory amp

I've read through the forums about the factory amp and know where it's located. I'm installing a new HU rated at 4x55. I bought the harness adapter for it and also bought an amp bypass harness in case I need to use it. I've also already installed new speakers. Am I going to have better sound...

Rough Idle and Noise from Intake(?)

I experienced similar idle problems in the fall but didn't hear metal grinding like you mentioned. After checking hoses, I ended up replacing the IAC valve, the MAF sensor and doing the steps below. Once I did the idle reset the problem was fixed. The steps below were posted by goalieman59 in...

Negative battery cable/Engine coolant temp sensor connector

FINALLY got the battery cables, starter solenoid and a new starter installed about 2 weeks ago. Started the installation a little after Thanksgiving. A friend did the soldering. The holdup was getting the top bolt of the starter out. Stripped the head so it turned into a battle. Also, the snow...

Negative battery cable/Engine coolant temp sensor connector

Thank you everyone for the tips. I thought crimping because both negative battery cables had the yellow butt connectors. I'll definitely go with soldering and dual wall heat shrink. I'll need to go back and take a picture of the whole cable (it's been raining since my post). Like natenkiki...

    1994 explorer 135K miles/ engine stumbles

Mine would intermittently hiccup when I came to a stop. The short story: I ended up changing the spark plugs (even though one mechanic told me they were OK) and spark plug wires. I used Motorcraft spark plug wires and Autolite spark plugs. Hiccups stopped and I find my start ups to be pleasant.

Negative battery cable/Engine coolant temp sensor connector

I bought a negative battery cable for a '94 Explorer but it doesn't have the engine coolant temp sensor connector. Instead, it has two auxiliary connections. I found a battery cable replacement thread (91-94X Battery Cables) and ordered the negative battery cable mentioned from NAPA and it was...

    Brake hose suggestions

Hello! Forum newb. Just got a ’94 Explorer in July. Looking for advice on replacing my brake hoses. 1) Is there a brand or type I should aim for? I have been using Motorcraft replacement parts when available. I’m slowly building it up for light off roading and zombie apocalypse survival. 2)...
