Automatic Transmission Takes Longer and longer to shift/gear up

Thought you'd be aware: Transmission Slipping - Updated 8/23/22 Back in the shop! The dealer has not outright said they'd warranty it. But the service manager understood my frustration and had said he'd work something out. But until it fails or starts throwing codes, I'm SOL.

Automatic Transmission Takes Longer and longer to shift/gear up

The transmission was rebuilt by the dealer 18 months ago and has 18k miles on it. I don't think it's a dirty fluid thing.

    2015 Explorer - P0017/P0012 - stalling troubleshoot

Seems like if your timing chain jumped two links, you'd have had more indication of a rough running engine. Odd. If you're not going to look at the ecm, then you could check the throttle position sensor and clean the intake. Clean the MAF while you're there. You could have an issue with...

Automatic Transmission Takes Longer and longer to shift/gear up

Mine is doing something similar at the moment. Dealer can't recreate and it doesn't throw any codes. So here I sit until it breaks and gets us killed.

Water pump and rear main seal leak on 85xxx miles

Ours lasted to 96k miles. Did the obligatory "timing chain replacement" at the same time.

    2015 Explorer - P0017/P0012 - stalling troubleshoot

I had to T/S a stalling problem on a grand cherokee. Changed a lot of stuff including the cam position center but it turned out to be the ECM. YMMV. You can start here: Explorer Archives

    Cylinder 2 misfire headache

You might have multiple plugs/coil packs that are going bad. Had a similar problem on a BMW. Swapping plugs and coil packs wouldn't solve it. Got all new plugs and coil packs and problem went away.

Transmission Slipping - Updated 8/23/22 Back in the shop!

Honestly, I don't know. Part of me is done with Ford, part would like a Bronco - But Bronco is having their own issues. It'd really have to be an offer we couldn't refuse. A Raptor Ranger would be cool but this is my wife's daily driver so "no" to a pick-up.

Transmission Slipping - Updated 8/23/22 Back in the shop!

Hey! Guess who has two thumbs and their Exploder back in the shop for a faulty transmission?! This guy! Seriously! Last rebuilt in Sept of '22 for the second time. But this time my warranty is up. We've been looking to sell but with the car market the way it's been (lack of options) we've...

Transmission Slipping - Updated 8/23/22 Back in the shop!

Guess whose Exploder is back in the shop for a bad transmission!!! They confirmed it's bad but won't be able to open it up for 3 weeks. Ugh. Thank God for the extended warranty. But in the current market, I'm selling this pig after it's fixed. It's back to "banging/Clanking" when we put it...

    Abnormal noise from suspension

It was the fronts. They suggested replacing both sides and I agreed. Most likely the other side was going bad too. Better to do it in pairs IMO. But the bushings on both LCAs were bad. I've done all my own work on our Jeep Grand Cherokee including new bearings and upper & lower control...

    Abnormal noise from suspension

I was about to start a similar thread. Starting hearing a lot of "tire noise" and it would change with speed - very loud at 38mph, couldn't hear it at 40mph, very loud at 42mph. Thought I had a bad tire. Turns out I had a bad hub/bearing AND the bushings in the LCA had gone bad. Ended up...

    2016 Explorer Transmission troubles

Did you see my post at the bottom of page 4? Sounds a lot like my issue. Good luck!

Transmission Slipping - Updated 8/23/22 Back in the shop!

Not through the pedal, heard it with the window open. I don't think the tensioner is part of the powertrain but it doesn't say which warranty covered it.

Transmission Slipping - Updated 8/23/22 Back in the shop!

OK. So we had a vehicle back for less than a week and it started leaking oil. Took us a week or so to get it into the shop. They had the car a day and found: "Verified customer concern. Found fluid leaking to be transmission fluid. transmission fluid leaking from between PTU and...

Transmission Slipping - Updated 8/23/22 Back in the shop!

I have a Canadian vehicle. They were supposed to do Carbon Monoxide reprogramming but I don't see it. They have my copy of my notification from Ford. I'll need to go get that back.

Transmission Slipping - Updated 8/23/22 Back in the shop!

We got our car back this week. They had it over 8 weeks. The report is about 6 pages long worth of work. I'll summarize: Replaced: Driven Plate - steel, cylinder, converter assembly, inner circlip, plate assembly - drive, case assembly - transmission, bearing assembly - ball, bearing assembly...

Bluetooth connected but phone calls not coming

Have you reset your sync? Drill through the menu and you should find the option to reset it. You'll lose all your settings and nav favorites if you have it but that might solve it.

Transmission shifts harder between 2nd into 3rd

There's a lot of truth in what KayGee is saying. My exploder experienced almost all of it. But my "hardshifting" problem turned into a full-blown nightmare. They've now had my vehicle 7 weeks trying to fix the transmission. I don't even bother asking for updates anymore. If you can't get...

    2016 Explorer XLT PTU *PICS*

If you put 14oz into an 18oz closed system, you'd be smart to have that PTU taken apart and inspected. I would guess that the 'old' gear oil has congealed and is sitting at the bottom of the PTU like a wad of putty. Unless you believe there's a leak. Your first step might be to drain it again...

    PTU Problems

Hmmm, when did Ford update the PTU? I just had my dealer look at mine because of the trans issues and have him confirm the PTU was in good working order. He said mine didn't have the drainplug, just a fillplug. Mine is a June '16 build. They checked my fluid and it's in good shape. He...

    2017 explorer crashed

I don't really have a sense for where those cracks are but that's messed up that it gave like that.

Transmission Slipping - Updated 8/23/22 Back in the shop!

Had to go to the dealer today to swap out courtesy cars. The SA showed me the parts list so far. $2,500 in parts ( @ dealer costs) which included many bearings, a cylinder, trans case, and lots of little parts. He told me that Ford had to order a differential for the transmission (That's what...

    Looking For Window Sticker

your dealer can look it up by the vin. When we were having a debate about my BLIS system, they pulled up my original build and printed me a copy. It's not a "window sticker" but I'm guessing you're not looking for the sticker price.

16 Explorer XLT Push Button Start Problems!!
