    Driver window up

In my case, it appears to be the contacts on the outside of the ignition lock. Not the cylinder that you put the key in and turn, but the part that the key-cylinder fits into on the steering column. My driver window up still does the start/stop thing intermittently, but if I move the ignition...

    Driver window up

Hmm, I'll try to check the contacts inside where the cylinder goes... maybe there's a problem there.

    Driver window up

Apparently the "full time" window issue started when I put in the new ignition cylinder. I put the original one back in and it's back to intermittent. Is it the cylinders? Do I need to bite the bullet and get the Motorcraft part?

    Driver window up

I recently installed a new ignition cylinder that came with new keys (Dorman). The old one was wonky and loose where I'd often get the "key in ignition" warning chime even when the key was removed. I still have the old one. I can't honestly say if the full-time window up issue started when I...

    Driver window up

I found plenty of threads about driver-side windows but I could not find any that match my symptoms. One-touch-down works just fine as do all the other controls on the driver's door. A few months ago it started that intermittently when I would go to put the driver window UP, it would go in...

How to: Overhead console display fix - 2nd Gen

Nothing fancy. 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol and Q-tips. Some of the PCB coating was eaten off the traces but I opted not to try recoating it at this time. Still working perfectly.

How to: Overhead console display fix - 2nd Gen

Following up with my solution. All the solders were triple-checked and fine. Two of the capacitors were leaky so I removed all 3, cleaned up the board and replaced them with new (Thanks Mouser.com!) and it's working like new now! You can see the black cap looks really bad. I was probably not...

Replacement Driving lights for stock lowers

I used these and they work great. I did have to clip the plug off the stock lights to re-use and then rig up a custom nut, bolt, washer setup to get it to work with the stock bracket but they've been in for 2 years and haven't moved at all.

    Just venting...

Rest assured, I haven't been back to that shop in 4 years. Sheer luck since I didn't discover this until now!

    Just venting...

I can't find the receipt in my maintenance folder but I think somewhere around $500. At the time I just "need it done", being busy with work and family. Now I definitely do everything I can myself. The only things I take it in for now are the ones that require specialized equipment (AC...

    Just venting...

Exactly, and for what they charged me, they should have replaced the rotors!

    Just venting...

When I got the Mystery Machine in April 2018 the parking brakes did not work at all. That was a big problem since it's parked at the top of my steep driveway. For the first few weeks I put blocks behind the rear wheels to be safe, then finally took it into a local, supposedly trustworthy shop...

How to: Overhead console display fix - 2nd Gen

The last fixed worked for two years, now I have odd behavior again. When I turn the key to ON (engine off), the display comes on just fine every time: everything on for half a second, blank for half a second, then proper display of temp and compass. However, when I start the engine and power...

    Thanks, forum!

Explorer started sounding "odd" even though it was running ok. I figured maybe cold weather related. Then the noise started getting louder every day. I was sure it was the water pump and started my research and planning to make that repair but then decided to check the forum first. Following...

Will I be hated. 96 explorer may take trip to metal yard. need something?>

Sure wish I lived closer! Mine is the exact same but '95. It'd be nice to get parts before it's scrapped!

    Mystery part??

That seems so obvious now. Thanks! Any suggestions/link on a replacement washer? I'm finding all kinds out there when I Google it. Rubber, nylon, steel...

    Mystery part??

Well sh*t. I'm not leaking oil at the plug yet. Guess I'd better get a new one and 4 more qts of oil!

    Mystery part??

Can anyone ID this piece? After replacing the radiator and fan last week, I changed the oil yesterday. When I poured the oil out of the catch pan back into the 5L jug, this was at the bottom. It's smaller than the threaded hole of the old oil filter. Is it from the drain plug? It seems fairly...

    Radiator replacement advice?

Hey, whaddya know, this question was answered while I was inspecting the fan clutch nut in advance of replacing the radiator tomorrow. I saw quite clearly on the center hub of the plastic fan, cracks between all 12 fan blades. Some hairline, some I could see all the way through. So guess what...

    Radiator replacement advice?

Well, the K-Seal worked *really* well to stop the coolant leak for the last 20 months, but now there's a leak on the passenger side top aft corner of the radiator. Looks like it's typical of the seals giving out. I found videos and since it's the V6, replacing the radiator definitely looks like...

    Revenge of the 327

Special thanks to @94xlt4WD here (code 327 (check engine light)) for inspiring me to check the wiring.

    Revenge of the 327

Oh FFS, I found the issue. I will resist deleting this post from embarrassment and leave it here so someone may hopefully learn from my mistake. The instructions that came with the new Motorcraft wiring harness were VERY specific on the wires, but either I got something turned upside down or...

    Revenge of the 327

    Vref = 5.0V SigRtn = 0.078V DPFEGR = 0.084V New DPFE hoses, good ones.

    Revenge of the 327

At some point in the last 2.5 years, I pulled all the KOEO and KOER codes and tracked down the errors and squashed them. One of them was the famous 327 "EGR valve position circuit below minimum voltage." I did my searching and reading here and replaced the DPFE sensor which made the error go...
