    Active Grill Shutters

I didn't know the Explorers have active grill shutters. Seems like a good idea

    IIHS Crash Results Are Out

Lots of green "good" assessments. I'm happy with these scores. Thanks for the heads up

Brakes inconsistent / not smooth at low speed?

Good to hear the feedback from others with more miles on their ST. Sounds promising. I've only had mine a few weeks so hopefully still in the break-in period.

Brakes inconsistent / not smooth at low speed?

I don't think it's the downshifting. It's the brakes. Recent MotorTrend review had nice things to say about the ST overall but on the downsides said "Awful brakes on the ST" and added that "...though all 11 judges complained about the Explorer ST's brakes, which function more as an on/off switch...

Brakes inconsistent / not smooth at low speed?

I have an ST with the street pack wheel/caliper upgrade. It's hard to describe this. I find the brakes to be inconsistent and not smooth at low speed around 10 mph and below. Or another way to put it: even pressure on the brakes doesn't result in equally even braking power. Somewhere in this...

Delete or turn off apps? (Stitcher specifically)

Anyone know how to delete an app or disable it from taking over the app on your phone? I listen to a ton of podcasts using the Stitcher app. Since I got my 2020 Explorer a few weeks ago, Stitcher has been disabled on my phone and it shows up as an app on the Sync 3 system screen. That happened...

6th Gen Stock 2020+ Explorer & Aviator Photo Thread

Nice ride. That's what I did too: opted out of the Tech package to avoid the vertical screen. I'm going to be staring at that screen for years so I'd better like it.

Annoying things you have found that ford needs to fix

Thanks, good tip. Got a slim case and it fits now. My old one was an Otter Box Defender, which is a bit bulky because it's overbuilt for max protection. Really glad I can charge my phone now

You sure about that? Double check on your vehicle, please. I've tried multiple time also through the settings via the screen and it does the same thing; it resets to Reverse Brake Assist being enabled again each time the vehicle is turned off and back on again.

Here are some photos of my ST in a variety of lighting situations. The metallic gray has a nice way of subtle change in color depending on the lighting. The two photos of it in the driveway are after getting the two front windows tinted. It’s replacing a 20 year old 4Runner with manual...

Annoying things you have found that ford needs to fix

One more thing: the wireless phone charging pad will not fit an Iphone 8 plus with a case on it. Just two more millimeters would do it. If I take the case off, it fits. This seems like a design overlook since large phones and cases are so common and an extra couple millimeters is clearly...

    Auto Start-Stop Technology

I've had my ST for just over a week and here are my quick thoughts on the Auto Start Stop. It is implemented fairly well so that it starts up almost instantaneously and feels smooth. Much better than in a Jeep Compass rental car I had recently where the whole car shook when the engine turned...

Annoying things you have found that ford needs to fix

I wish the "Reverse Brake Assist" could be permanently disabled instead of it being re-enabled each time the car is turned off. I installed my hitch mount bike rack and its getting picked up by car's rear sensors as an obstacle and the "Reverse Brake Assist" feature is slamming on the brakes...

I generally see what you're saying about dealer. I've always been leary of add-ons from the dealership because of high mark-ups. However, prices are all over the map for ceramic clear coat even considering detailers. Dealer offers the exterior clear coat plus leather treatment for $599. A...

View from Beneath a 2020 Explorer

Question: I assume that means the piped in sounds is only in Sport mode? Is the car otherwise mostly quiet during the other "regular" driving modes?

    Multiple suspension noises

Bummer to read this. Our ST we ordered could come as soon as today. I've known all along that there's more risk buying the first models of a new platform but I've been waiting for this one for a couple years of researching all our options. On paper it seems to check off all the boxes we want as...

6th Gen Stock 2020+ Explorer & Aviator Photo Thread

I'm somewhat new to car detailing. I stopped bothering to wash my year 2000 4Runner a long time ago. But I'm about to join the modern world with our Explorer ST arriving as soon as this weekend. I see that most of the beautiful shiny Explorers in this thread have benefited from a ceramic paint...

6th Gen Stock 2020+ Explorer & Aviator Photo Thread

I'm not sure what I think about the puddle lamps. Maybe cool, but maybe kinda tacky? I'd maybe also want the option to disable or swap out to a general red spot versus the ST logo. Low-tech but a small strip of electrical tape to cover the bulb could "disable" the lighting?
