First time Transmission flush questions for an m50d manual

Thanks man this is really helpful. I liked this shop in the past because they took photos of what was wrong and it was easy for me to get a thorough overview of what was wrong. Sometimes I would take it to smaller shops to do the actual work though for example here’s the inspection AutoServe1...

First time Transmission flush questions for an m50d manual

Sweet thank you. The shop said my fluid was black with metal flecks so I was hoping I could do something to help it last longer. yeah the headlights were a fun project. I’m just sick of breaking all the plastic brackets whenever I touch the headlights. I’ve replaced them 3 times already because...

First time Transmission flush questions for an m50d manual

That’s super interesting I and my buddy I bought it from always thought it was a 97 until about 6 months ago I looked on the title and it said it was a 1996. I wonder if they just put the wrong date on the title. yeah I’m dumb that is the oil drain in the first pic. I’m still looking for the...

First time Transmission flush questions for an m50d manual

Yeah I'm getting that feeling too the mechanic. I got the clutch and slave put in by a shop in 2019 and it felt exactly the same after the repair so I doubt it's that.

First time Transmission flush questions for an m50d manual

Hey guys I absolutely love my 96 manual explorer and have done a ton of work to it this year and would love to keep it. Since I bought the truck 6 years ago I've always had a hard time shifting into 1st especially when it's cold or hasn't been driven for a bit. Lately my other gears especially...

Skid Plate make/buy ideas for 2nd gen Explorer XL?

Hey man, I looked into this a bit more. Is it possible I already have a huge trans cooler from the factory? Maybe a towing kit upgrade or something? It's weird as my truck didn't come with a hitch but I put one back on. 98' xl 4wd The only video I found was showing this 1/4 size radiator...

Skid Plate make/buy ideas for 2nd gen Explorer XL?

Nice, Those lines look way better! Definitely stealing this idea to bring back the bumper up to meet the fender line. Just gotta go find some 3/16" sheet metal. Do you not have rubbing issues running those big tires when turning or getting bendy offroad? I did want to upgrade the size of mine...

Skid Plate make/buy ideas for 2nd gen Explorer XL?

Thanks for the tips. I may try to weld up some brackets to mount to the bottom of the frame like yours eventually. I think it's this skid plate 98-11 Ranger Front Skid Plate. I wasn't quite ready to drop the $300 with tax/shipping. Also I wanted to add some hard rubber spacers between the bottom...

What are the best first steps to take?

I imagine it's the same for the 01 but on my 97' you can get a about a 2" lift for less than $100 if you have a secondary jack and jack stands. That clearance will help quite a lot to clear rocks. You can do a 2" lift to the front by doing the torsion twist which just requires turning a bolt...

    Custom skid plate ideas?

I'm working on a front skidplate too. Did you wind up putting one in? Trying to mockup ideas where I can bolt it to currently https://www.explorerforum.com/forums/threads/skid-plate-make-buy-ideas-for-2nd-gen-explorer-xl.487275/

Skid Plate make/buy ideas for 2nd gen Explorer XL?

Alright, new plan. Just picked up this 3/16" 2010 4runner skid plate for $50 bucks on craigslist. Needs a little paint but it's a steal at $330 new. I need some advice from you offroad pros on how to best create mounting points for this thing since I'm new to the world of skidplates. Mocked up...

Skid Plate make/buy ideas for 2nd gen Explorer XL?

What thickness steel would you recommend? I definitely wouldn't mind going lighter as you're definitely right that 1/4th would be super heavy. I did find someone got this RCI skidplate that is 3/16th that is exactly what I am looking for. A little out of my price range at the moment and that is...

Skid Plate make/buy ideas for 2nd gen Explorer XL?

Hey Guys, I recently made some custom mounting brackets for an XJ bumper and it worked out real nice. However, I plan to be doing a little more intense offroading this year and wondered if you guys have any skid plate ideas? I think the large gap behind the bumper looks a bit strange but I...

A nice off-road bumper option for those willing to fabricate a mounting bracket.

Right on, thanks for the tips. Your bumper setup looks great! I agree the mount could be a bit stronger for winching purposes. I did wind up welding on another 2 inch wide bracket that ran down the length of the frame that I didn't get a pic of (outlined in red). Unfortunately, the frame has so...

A nice off-road bumper option for those willing to fabricate a mounting bracket.

Hey guys for any of you interested in custom offroad winch bumpers willing to fabricate mounting brackets I had really good success with this one made for a Jeep XJ and it's only $265 but really good heavy duty quality. I did have to cut the lower part of the body panel right above the bumper...
