    4.0 SOHC hose diagram

So, very good news. My mechanic was very receptive to my feedback and ya'll were very helpful. The pictures were helpful. They rerouted and connected the hoses correctly. Nothing they did was significantly wrong but some things were improved upon. The "ticking" I was hearing was actually...

    Fantastic, and thank you!!!!!

    4.0 SOHC hose diagram

@XLTrunner I've emailed my mechanic the items referenced. Still awaiting a reply, ideally with an appointment to bring it in. Until then, the vehicle is unfortunately sidelined and un-usable. I don't know if it will cause damage to continue to drive it this way, and don't want to risk it. I...

    4.0 SOHC hose diagram

Thank you. That's the picture when I bought the truck. Where should this be located?

    4.0 SOHC hose diagram

Is it possible to point to what the vacuum chamber is? I had a leaky manifold gasket with idling problems, so the gasket had to be replaced. So the had to take a bunch of stuff off the top to do the work. I spent a full day figuring out the PCV before this and had it installed correctly...

    4.0 SOHC hose diagram

That's my conclusion. I got sidetracked on a different task but tomorrow I'm going to tackle this. I wish I could find a accurate photograph of where the hose goes.

    4.0 SOHC hose diagram

There's some hoses off the air intake and I think my mechanic mis-routed one. I might have to start going to a different shop. They previously screwed up the PCV and I had to return and show them diagrams and get them to do it correctly. My truck is running rough, and I think they have a hose...

Tell me about the 2002 4.8L Explorer

Thanks, but I passed on it. At this auction you can inspect but cannot drive. The auction noted it hesitates in reverses. It sold for a shocking $2000, and went for far too much for me.

Tell me about the 2002 4.8L Explorer

Local auction, and I might be able to get one for about $600. It appears in 6 or 7 out of 10 cosmetics, but the reverse hesitates. 195,000 miles on this girl. I know the transmission is a weak spot on these. I own a 98 4.0 SOHC that I like overall. For low money I'd pick up a GOOD RELIABLE...

Solved Mityvac transmission fluid extraction ATF

I get really annoyed when "progress" means less options for the consumer. One example is the removal of the dipstick and drain plug. Really aggravates me. I'm fortunate in that some of my vehicles have both a transmission drain plug AND dipstick! Spoiled, I know! Another example is removal...

Solved Mityvac transmission fluid extraction ATF

And if you know what you're doing this seems reasonable. But some people talk about shocking the system with too much new fluid, which may be counterproductive and cause damage. I am not sure, I really don't know enough. For my needs, I don't yet feel comfortable doing this. And the cost...

Solved Mityvac transmission fluid extraction ATF

Useful info, thanks for posting. But, again, this process requires a HELPER. If you don't have a helper, it may not work.

Solved Mityvac transmission fluid extraction ATF

Did a 2nd ATF drain and fill with the Mityvac. Reporting results. I was first going to try an oil change thru the dipstick on level ground. It would be fantastic if that would work. Alas I could only extract 2 liters (2 qts). So on the Explorer this will not do an oil change. So I filled...

Solved Mityvac transmission fluid extraction ATF

I considered that, but opted to get the Mityvac because your suggested method is 1) more difficult, 2) requires 2 people, 3) risks damage if done incorrectly, 4) can make a huge mess if done incorrectly, and 5) extracts roughly the same amount of fluid. The Mityvac is extremely easy and mess...

Trans Fluid Drain / Change / Replace 2000 Explorer

That's not really correct information, to be clear. It's my understanding the capacity is about 10 qts. So draining and replacing 2 qts is "freshening" up about 20% of the fluid. Done repeatedly and consistently a constant source of fresh fluid is introduced, and some drained with the older...

Solved Mityvac transmission fluid extraction ATF

I have 3 Fords (no ATF drain plugs). Rather than trying to drop the pan, and deal with that hassle and mess, I opted to buy and try a Mityvac fluid extractor. Here's my report. The $100 extractor was an incredible value. It extracted 4.1 liters from each of my Ford Crown Vic cars and 2.6L...

Confused?? rear axle lube Explorer Sport

This is solid feedback and advice. I'm also frugal, but not cheap and I see long-term as well. I have 6 qts of Royal Purple 75w90 with friction modifier inbound. Two are for my Challenger, and the rest for upcoming Toyota service. I talked to the RP rep and he said I could use this in my...

Confused?? rear axle lube Explorer Sport

I've got a bunch of gear oils on hand and would prefer to not spend what I see as probably unnecessary $45-60+ on more gear oils. My Explorer is having some ticking problems. I'm not sure what the issue is. It has 203,000 miles. It's the one vehicle I'm just not confident in the lifespan. I...

Confused?? rear axle lube Explorer Sport

Yeah, given the difficulty and hassle and time in changing this, I may just go with the best fully synthetic Royal Purple or Redline with the friction modifier already in there, even if not needed, and plan for another 100k miles on it. Then again, I'm doing ~1000 miles annually on this local...

Confused?? rear axle lube Explorer Sport

I have the same question, and nobody really answered this in 8 years. Mine is a 98 Sport 4.0 SOHC with axle code 41. I think that means it's open gear non-limited slip 3.27 gear ratio from my research. I cannot get straight answers anywhere easily. This is much harder to get information for...

Rock Auto parts closeout for 98 4.0 SOHC

Just received this deal from Rock Auto and maybe it can help someone. A lot of closeout parts. I have zero affiliation. https://www.rockauto.com/RSS/vehiclefeeds.php?carcode=1304413&m=wc&l=en&html=true

Fix or replace engine on 1998 Explorer

Talked to mechanic, he says 60 bucks to crawl around in it and give an opinion.... Decisions decisions... I'm thinking "best case" several hundred dollars to do this and that... to restore a 200k motor.

Fix or replace engine on 1998 Explorer

More analysis... as I think out loud here. I have 7 vehicles, and this a dedicated local in town grocery getter and dog park transport, short range errands, etc. It's the perfect vehicle for me for these limited duty needs to keep in town miles off more important vehicles in my inventory...
