    Upper oil pan alignment

I'm just about to finish my timing set install on my 2001 Explorer Sport with the 4.0L SOHC engine. I've been using the Haynes manual and FordTechMakeYouLoco (FTMYL) videos for reference. The Haynes manual on page 2B-14 describes a specific procedure for aligning the rear of the upper oil pan...

Timing chain breaking down - need advice

Our '01 needs a timing set also. As far as the brand of parts to use, I'm a little confused as to the Ford recommendation, when these engines have a history of timing component failure. Did Ford make an improvement in the quality of the parts, especially the plastic?

Timing chain breaking down - need advice

If your considering repairing that engine, stop driving it right now. That cassette will only get worse. If it jumps time, then you have to be concerned about valve damage.

    Engine overheats when Idling

Long overdue for an update. Vehicle developed a starting problem - had to replace the fuel pump. Weather turned cold and overheating problem not such a big deal. Before summer rolled around, engine developed timing problems - plastic parts on the passenger side timing cassette have broken. 194k...

    Lost Oil Pressure

I had the faux gauge in the dash stop working in my '95 OHV.

Rear door strike plate holder FELL INTO BODY. Help!

I had this happen to me on my 95 2-door. Kind of freaked me out not being able to latch the door and needing to drive it. But at that end of the trim panel, it's an easier fix. Still have the pass. side to do. If you were desperate to be able to drive it, I'd cut the plastic part of the coat...

Rear door strike plate holder FELL INTO BODY. Help!

Can't speak for 4-doors, but on our '95 and '01 2-door's, there is definitely a screw going thru the trim panel into the floor right below the quarter window. You can try pulling the carpet back, but the seat bottom may be in the way, only 3 bolts to remove it.

GEM Swapping On Stock 99 Explorer EB?

Yes, my '95 says Control Trac 4WD on the liftgate. Dash switch labeled 2WD 4WD Auto 4WD Low. So, where is the 4X4 Control Module and the TOC Controller located?

GEM Swapping On Stock 99 Explorer EB?

Would this statement be true for my '95 v6, or is the 4x4 control module and TOD controller separate?

GEM Swapping On Stock 99 Explorer EB?

My neighbor had a similar problem with his Expedition ('08 iirc) The battery would be drained down if it set for a couple of days. Start it up and drive it every day, no problems. I hooked up my handheld meter as blakshukvw mentioned, to measure current. The vehicle would cycle between a low...

Taking door panels off to install speakers

So, what do people use to fasten the water shield to the door when the factory adhesive no longer holds it in place? Not wanting to glue the shield permanently in place, I used Scotch Removable Poster Tape (109S) on one door, but haven't had to take the water shield off, to know how easy it will...

    What should engine compression be

OOPs! Oh well, always good to learn something new.

    What should engine compression be

Have you changed your EGR valve? I had a problem with my '95 OHV having a rough idle. I went to change the EGR valve and noticed that the vacuum canister that sets on top of the valve itself was rusted through (made of thin metal). I went ahead and tore the sheet metal canister off so I could...

    Which trims had MACH/JBL option?

My '95 Ex (2 door), Expedition trim level, has the Ford/JBL hu with a cassette and a cd changer in the console, some controls in the rear of the console, and a sub with an amp in the cargo area. Ford/JBL 2-way speakers in the doors, and Ford/JBL speakers for the rear seat (don't believe these...

    Brake fluid reservoir replacement

Awhile back, I was running some errands in our '95. One of my stops was at a motorcycle shop to buy some parts for my bike. I got there via a street with 3 lanes each direction. Traffic runs up to 50 mph. The shop actually sets on a frontage road next to this street. Come time to go home, I...

    Aftermarket wheel reliability

Our '95 has the Ford factory steel wheels (chrome tri-spoke), and our '01 Sport has the factory aluminum wheels. My question is: Are the lug nuts the same? I'm talking about the angle/bevel of the lug nut, the part that actually comes in contact with the rim. Are these angles the same? This is...

Phenolic Spacer source for 1997 MM 5.0

Given the constraints of the design, are the aftermarket people able to improve on the weak parts?

Phenolic Spacer source for 1997 MM 5.0

So, did the Mustang owners ('05 - '10) have to yank the SOHC's to fix the timing sets, or did Ford put better parts in by then?

    Front suspension advice

In regard to the oe's comment about ride quality: We bought our '95 when it was 2 years old. I thought it rode pretty stiff (I was used to older Ford vans. When I finally changed out the original shocks, I looked for something that might ride a little smoother. I put on a set of OE Spectrums...

Retired English teacher in over her head (1999 ford explorer limited) fuel pump

Thanks for your caution to be careful and accurate. I'm working on the '01 Sport right now. I can't recall how many times I've been underneath the vehicle and on top of the rear seat floorboard, trying to establish some reference points "on top". I've got a rectangle drawn on the floorboard...

Retired English teacher in over her head (1999 ford explorer limited) fuel pump

How reliable/long lasting is this pressure vent sensor? I'm getting ready to cut my access hole to replace the fuel pump and was wondering if it should be replaced from a preventive maintenance standpoint. 190,000 miles on my 01 sport. With an access door, I guess I could service it at any...
