    Can it be fixed?

Found a lot of rust (swear it wasn't there last year) on the frame part going from a body mount to the outside frame, below the driver's seat! Is this fatal or can it be fixed or replaced? I know somebody that can weld, I can't. Picture coming soon.

    Breathalyzers!

Yes, the gov't wants them in new cars, along with automatic emergency braking! Gee, I bet NOTHING could go wrong with this, LOL

    Hood release cable

So I ordered and got a new one. Got this video off the net how to install it. One idea I'm going to try for convenience: Attach and pull along an insulated wire to mark the route (it seems to go just about everywhere under the hood!). And possibly use it as an aid to pull the new one through...

Change PS pump or not? And Mercon V or not?

Hi all! I'm going to have a shop replace a crooked pulley, the serpentine belt, change the power steering fluid (which is dirty looking)and evaluate the AC system (never worked when I bought it). They mentioned also replacing the power steering pump. I don't seem to have any problem with the...

    Bent my back hatch!

Well, I messed up big time. Didn't notice the snow shovel leaning against the back bumper when I slammed the back hatch lid down (always needed to so it would latch) Sprung it on the passenger side, about an inch gap at the midline of the hatch door lining up with the side. Going to find a LOT...

    Power Steering rattle?

I had my Ex in a shop to check out a vibration at idle - mechanic sez it's not the driveline so good - BUT noticed the intermittent rattle that to me sounds just like a loose heat shield - told me it's actually the power steering pump. I get no whining/groaning noise out of the power steering...

    Sudden back end trouble!

This morning I started my Ex after not driving for a couple days. Pulled out and its rear end started shuddering, rumbling noise and felt like I was driving over boulders like bowling balls! That went away within the next 2 blocks. There was maybe 1/3" inch of snow, not sure if it was the 4WD...

    Riding down the freeway

Curious question: you who drive the 2nd gen stock Explorers (first gen too). Do you do the 75+ mph to keep up with traffic on the interstates or freeways, or do you go slower/pick a 2 lane hwy. Have to admit doing those tight sweeping turns at speed makes me a touch nervous, but don't want to...

    Doesn't even click!

Several days ago, the new master window switch on my 98 Ex stopped working partially. (wouldn't run the back windows). Not fixed yet, hard to work in 90 degree humid days! Then yesterday, wouldn't click or turn over - put the charger on 3 hrs. No difference! But locks work. Theft light stays...

06 Kia Sorento engine fire today!

Yikes, my relative's 06 Kia Sorento just had an engine fire today, Her daughter had just driven it about 11 mi. to work, turned it off and went inside. Security told her, 'There's a car on fire in the parking lot!" and it was the one she had just gotten out of minutes before. I noted from Car...

Do I need sealant on throttle body?

I'm halfway done replacing my thermostat, noticed the throttle body doesn't seem to have any gasket, possibly a paper thin layer of some sealant was on it? It also has a thin plate which mates to it which has the appearance of shark teeth across the bottom of its inside bore. It doesn't have a...

Draining a little coolant to change thermostat

With good instructions gotten from this forum, was about to drain about 5 quarts of coolant, so I could change the thermostat. But I find my radiator drain valve inaccessible, radiator is enclosed in a box! I really don't want coolant all over the place, as it's new and plan to but it back in...

    Needs a name!

Of all the non critical concerns, I find my Explorer in need of a name. Green Machine doesn't quite fit somehow. All stock, a work in progress since March of this year when I bought it in a hurry, no regrets so far!

    Pre warming cold engine

Got this quote from a closed thread. Do you all agree with him? (From General Explorations here) "An engine block heater is designed to warm up the whole block, oil included. The most efficient way is to warm the coolant in the block, and the oil will get heated right along with it. Contrary to...
