What would cause repeated flywheel damage

What would cause a 136,000 mile 4.0 ohv / m5od to repeatedly lose and chew up flywheel ring gear teeth? I thought it was a random incident so I installed a new flywheel and starter after my last one lost teeth on startup immediately after changing to motorcraft spark plugs… (unrelated issues and...

do these fuel pressures look right?

91 x, 4.0 ohv. Has a pinging issue well discussed on another thread, please don’t suggest seafoam or maf cleaner, lol. Anyway, do these fuel pressures seem about right? It does have a new fuel filter, the regulator and pump should be original with 135,000 miles on them. Pressures do hold after...

What spark plugs are you running?

What spark plugs are you running on your 4.0 OHV explorers? Do/did you get any pinging/preignition in hot weather with a specific model of plug? Autolite AP605’s here w/ new coil pack and wires. So far not great... but not sure if the plugs are the problem.

Stuck in gear when not rolling? 91 Explorer M5OD

Strange problem, replaced clutch, slave, etc a few months ago. 134,000 miles. Everything worked great until recently; when coming to a complete stop in gear with the clutch depressed (example, parking) and leaving the car in either 1st or Reverse, the shifter will **sometimes** get “locked”...

    Too much carbon buildup? (photos)

Took a peek down in my 4.0 OHV’s cylinders using my phone through the plug holes in the head, and this is what I saw. This does look like a fair bit of carbon, is this normal? I am experiencing ping. I ran 3/4 a bottle of seafoam through the intake yesterday, allowing it to soak for an hour...

Pinging 4.0 OHV, tried most solutions.

Making a dedicated thread for this, hopefully someone here has some tips on possible causes or things to check. Getting some mild to heavy pinging on 87 octane when putting the vehicle under load (merging on highway, grades, etc). Its a 1991 4.0 with the 5spd. Also getting a somewhat rough...

    Unidentified loose connector

Found this right next to the coil pack, not sure what it goes to? Looked everywhere online and cant find any other clear images of it. Maybe someone here knows what its for. 1991 4.0 OHV Explorer, 5spd. Long time lurker but first time poster. This forum has provided a lot of help on my project.
