    CV joint boots

Since Ford doesn’t provide parts, I’ll use OEM parts from another brand. I think the boots’ size should be very close.

    CV joint boots

Seems Ford don’t want the boots to be replaced separately. They discontinued two products for this: CV Joint Boot Kit Part Number: 6L2Z3A331A Supersession(s): 6L2Z-3A331-A

    CV joint boots

Any good brand? I can’t find a ford / motorcraft one. Thanks! BTW, I don’t plan to use a $60 or so aftermarket axle. The quality is poor.

    Transmission Line Connector

Very frustrated! With hours of my labor (and $40 parts cost), two brand-new Dorman 800-621 Transmission Line Connectors leak right at the connectors, which obviously is not better than my old connectors (with single O-ring). Has anyone modified the connectors? I’m thinking of using 2...

    06 transmission heater and cooler

I just noticed that my 06 4.0L SOHC has a separate transmission cooler, which sits in front of the AC condenser and engine radiator. Do I get lucky or this is standard? Now I think the small one in the bottom of the radiator is more likely a heater (than a cooler) for transmission. Make sense...

Thread sealant between aluminum and steel

I’m putting two new Dorman transmission line connectors on my radiator. What’s the best sealant to use for the threads please? One is aluminum and the other one is steel. When I unscrewed the old connectors out, I saw the manufacturer has applied some sealant, which has protected the threads...

    Radiator Variants: 2006 vs 2007-10

Based on specs of brand OSC, seems the inlet/outlet diameter is different: 2006 uses 1-9/16” while the rest models use 1-1/2”.

    Radiator Variants: 2006 vs 2007-10

RockAuto shows 2006 v6/v8 uses Motorcraft RAD20, while the rest model years (2007-2010) use RAD38. Anyone knows what the differences are? Seems Ford improved the design since 2007?! Thanks!

    All Metal Radiator

The main reason I am looking for an all-metal one is, to avoid the plastic tanks. The price I linked above is even lower than that of plastic-aluminum one.

    All Metal Radiator

I plan to cramp down the metal clamps a little more to see if it works. The core itself looks clean and healthy!

    All Metal Radiator

Yeah, I have switched to use a 16PSI cap.

    All Metal Radiator

20 years? Unbelievable! After installing a new thermostat housing, I find mine is leaking around the seal where the upper plastic cover meets the core. I think the rubber seal has shrunk.

    All Metal Radiator

Has anyone tried this kind of radiator? Any comments are appreciated! Ebay 3ROW All Aluminum Radiator For 2006-2010 Ford Explorer 4.0L 4.6L HPR906-3R11

    Vacuum on Fuel Pressure Sensor

Old fuel systems usually have with a returning fuel hose, and need a pressure regulator that’s regulated by vacuum. However, for the 4.0 SOHC, it’s a returnless system. Then, why does the fuel pressure sensor needs vacuum please? I’m trying to understand how it works! Thanks!

How often do you clean fuel injectors and how?

Thank you all! I asked because of this issue: Help - Car occasionally won’t start until I give a little bit of gas when hot LEAKY fuel injectors are the suspect now, after some extensive research on this issue! I’ll do a injector cleaning without taking them out first and see if it helps...

Help - Car occasionally won’t start until I give a little bit of gas when hot

TTT Just want to share: All my research points to leaky fuel injectors, which floods cylinder at warm start! It won’t be an isssue in cold start as the leaked fuel would have evaporated by then.

Intermittent long crank to start 2008 4.0L

If it happens at warm start (hot, then off for 20 minutes or so), but not happen at cold start, try depressing gas pedal slightly when igniting! My ford has this issue and all my research points to leaky fuel injectors, which floods cylinder at warm start! It won’t be an isssue in cold start...

How often do you clean fuel injectors and how?

I know most people would just dump sea foam or the like to the fuel tank. Has anyone performed a DEDICATED cleaning? Such as by taking out the fuel injectors. How often do you do that? Are they dirty or clogged or leaking? Thanks!

    Delete Thermostat

Thank you all! The discussion is very good and we all learn from each other!

    Delete Thermostat

The PIN works as a piston, when wax in the cylinder is heated, it explands, forcing the PIN to extrude! Surprisingly, my bad one is made of stainless steel and copper/brass!

    Totally agree!

    Delete Thermostat

This STRONG /BIG spring will make the thermostat stay in CLOSED (to radiator) position in cold temperature, based on my engineering knowledge. This should be the most failure state: stuck closed, aka, fail to open! As once wax leaks, it can’t push the PIN/PISTON out any more. When coolant...
