Available rear bench seat from my 1989 Aerostar.

I took out the the 3rd row seat from my 1989 Aerostar and am trying to decide what to do with it since I have no plans to ever reinstall it again. The van only had 80,000 miles on it when I bought it and was very clean inside and out so the seat is in really great shape. I hate to put it in the...

How many people own or have owned an Aerostar?

Wow lucky to find one with that low mileage! I bought my 1989 with 80,000 on it.

Ugh! OK. I just don't have much wiggle room in the budget to get it fixed just now.

How many people own or have owned an Aerostar?

I may do that if I can't find a knowledgeable friend to help 😉 I got it running and drove it a little bit. It runs rough and when I shift from park to drive it dies every time unless I keep my foot on the gas. At idle it runs fine then it sort of hiccups a bit and evens out, then hiccups again...

    I bought a 1994 Aerostar with 80K miles!

Yeah I figured that but it does give me ballpark idea if it's even doable for me

Yea, that's something I don't have tools for, or much knowledge of. I'll see if I can find a friend who knows that stuff. Mostly my knowledge goes far enough to get myself off the side of the road. I know a bit more than that but not enough to be able to do much more than really basic stuff.

I got the van to start yay! But now it won't stay running. I had to give it extra gas to start it and it dies when I take my foot off the gas. If it isn't one thing it's another bleh!

    I bought a 1994 Aerostar with 80K miles!

I don't know. Actually the paperwork for the quote was from last year and came with the maintenance records from the previous owner. I'll get into it further when I'm closer to being able to actually do it.

    I bought a 1994 Aerostar with 80K miles!

Cool, I'm glad you got something that works! I have to go low budget for now. I can't even afford $300 or more for the conversion right now but hopefully before next summer I'll get it done. Fortunately I don't drive this van a whole lot. I got it mostly to haul stuff that's too big for my...

    I bought a 1994 Aerostar with 80K miles!

Wow! I have quote for the conversion from old ac system to new that's under $400. Did yours never have ac?

I wouldn't go to all that trouble since the part isn't all that expensive. It was less than $30.

What did it end up costing you?

I'm probably going to do the same until I can do the conversion.

I read that these ignition control modules go out regularly. This one lasted pretty well though. I also read that if you don't use a decent brand of dielectric grease it'll go out again within about 3 mo's so I ordered some when I ordered the part. Getting the old one off wasn't so bad but...

How many people own or have owned an Aerostar?

I am replacing that module right now. I am pretty sure that's the issue. But of course I dropped one of those two tiny screws, couldn't find it and none of my local parts or hardware stores have any so far. I may have to order them! At least I remembered the dielectric grease. If this doesn't...

    I bought a 1994 Aerostar with 80K miles!

Unfortunately my ac doesn't work and needs a conversion I can't afford so it'll be a hot summer for me! We regularly get over 100 degrees in August and September so that'll suck! But the brakes and tires are all new! Plus mine is the long van so I can set it up to be my home when I travel and I...

How many people own or have owned an Aerostar?

I don't have the tools or knowledge to test the fuel system. If I have to get into that I'll probably have to put it in a shop unless I can find someone who wants to spend an afternoon helping a gal out for lunch and beer lol! I do have another car, but it needs repairs too though it does run so...

    I bought a 1994 Aerostar with 80K miles!

It looks to me like it was mostly garaged over all those years. The folks I got it from were the 2nd owners. It was kid (his first car) and his grandpa was teaching about caring for a vehicle right so I got receipts for everything they did to it all the time they had it. The kid had at least...

    WOW! What a find!

I bought it from the second owner. It came with the original owner's manual and warranty stuff lol! How often does that happen? I also have all the maintenance receipts for the last 4 or 5 years. It just had the brakes done and new tires too.

I just bought 1989 with only 80,000 on it. Got it for $1,000!

How many people own or have owned an Aerostar?

Unfortunately I went out to run an errand the other day and it wouldn't start. It cranks and I can hear the fuel system sounds but it never starts. A friend came by and did a bit of testing and said he thought it was the ignition coil so I replaced that along with the coil wire but that wasn't...

How many people own or have owned an Aerostar?

I recently bought a 1989 Aerostar. Got a great deal too! I got it for $1,000 and it only has 80,000 miles on it! It even has the original owners manual and maintenance paperwork for the last 5 years or so. The body is straight, brakes were just serviced, and it has all new tires! How lucky I am!
