How serious is having the chain rattling around? Is it a Ford only fix. ie- Super-specialized-tools? I dont have the skill level to do that, but my uncles a mechanic with know how. Any info would be great. thanks

Hey guys, i got a 99 x sport and on the way to work this morning the air vents had a mildewy smell coming out of them. I was just wondering if its maybe a bad cabin air filter(do x's have them?) Its got over 90k miles on it, im pretty sure its never been changed. Never smelt anything like this...
