    new jl w6

Ported is ok if set up correctly. You should really have a subsonic filter set just below the tuning of the enclosure to prevent the sub from unloading. that's probably what's happening. The type of music you listen to shouldn't really dictate the type of box you put a sub in. The sub...

    new jl w6

I have no clue where you heard something like that but it is about the craziest thing I have ever heard. You're getting gain and enclosure tuning confused. It sounds to me like the enclosure is most certainly too small. build a new one exactly like JL has on their site. use the...

    recommend sub(s) for my amp?

that amp is not 2 ohm stable bridged. 4 ohm bridged per pair. And why no more than 10's? That makes no sense at all. You're master certified? The amp isn't the greatest but you can certainly use it. Each pair of channels can be bridged to 4 ohms. I would get 2 subs rated around 250...

Where to put (4) 10" midranges?!

Why on god's earth do you need 4 10 inch mids?

    ranger jump seat speaker box?

Here is one I built for my 04 ranger a long time ago. I can't remember exactly but I think I ended up about 1 cube for a JL 10 w3. I removed the jack storage that is in the center and used that mounting bolt to fasten the box down from the inside. It worked out real well and I kept...

    Recommend a Set up!

Call crutchfield and tell them what you need. They have one of the best data bases for tech support. Especially if they think you're going to buy it from them.

I really think you're out of luck with that one.

using regular speakers in an explorer?

It is very practical if the user knows how to truly understand the specs of a driver. And yes it can be very practical and yes very sensible. I was making my point because of the blanket statement that 8 ohm drivers can' t be used in a vehichle. yes they can and they can be used with a very...

using regular speakers in an explorer?

Not really at all. A driver measures in impedance. The impedance dictates this to the amp. The amp puts out a different power rating at the different impedance number. Like I said before. A lot of 8 ohm drivers are more efficient than 4 ohm. This is the db level in the specs of a driver. take an...

using regular speakers in an explorer?

110 and 13 volts is what voltage the electrical system typically runs at. Actually 12.2 to 14.4 or so in a vehichle. 110 on house current. that has absolutely nothing to do with the driver being used. The impedance matters to a certain extent. An 8 ohm driver will not automatically be half as...

    What causes this? (sub question)

Then why doesn't it happen with his other box?

    What causes this? (sub question)

It would still leak even if its ported. I have actually seen this with a poorly built box. I certainly could be wrong though.

    My Build Thread.... w/pics

I couldn't agree more with your theory on overamping and keeping your gains down. I have always used that same approach. With very good results I might ad. As far as amps I would scratch the Hifonics right from the start. The AQ would be my choice. they make a good reliable amp that does rated...

    What causes this? (sub question)

Are they individually chambered but connected in one box? If so the chambers aren't sealed properly. The air pressure is leaking from one chamber to another.

    Need help with amp wattage

I would rate them nak AQ and then the CDT. All great amps but the nak is really cheap. any of those would really make those subs pound.

    Need help with amp wattage

And while I'm thinking about it there are some other choices in subs as well. I do like the new RF subs but there are lesser know brands that can and will outperform them. The FI would probobly be my first choice. That sub on 800 watts in a good box will sound incredible and get really...

If you want to have a real Conversation with a real tech rep contact this guy. http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/members/andy+wehmeyer.html He works for JBL/Harman. He is brilliant to say the least. I thoroughly enjoy having a debate with him.

    Need help with amp wattage

That Kicker amp should work rather well for you. I find it amusing that you had a conversation with a tech from rf and bought a Kicker amp though. You need to be careful with reps from some companies. Some of them are just flipping through a printed manual to give responses to people. I really...

    Need help with amp wattage

I agree on cheap equipment but the issue with cheap equipment is almost always a much lower than advertised voltage. rating at 4 volts and barely measuring 2. The most common misunderstanding that leads to clipping is setting the gain to match the voltage. old school hu's I mean really os were...
