Rattles fixed! Thanks folks. Sprayed the rubber nubs, seals and everything else with silicone, as mention in above posts and all is quiet. I will do it again real soon. Glad I did it before I tore into the rear hatch and removed the plastic door covering.

Thanks again. Greasing the hatch latch pins is an easy thing to do to see if it will stop the noise.

My 2004 4.6 V-8 Limited has developed a rattle which appears to be in the rear hatch door somewhere. Any suggestions as to cause and possible repair? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know if 2006-2010 rear differentials will work/swap out OK in a 2004 model without problems? I understand Ford fixed the 2002 through 2005 rear differential problems starting with the 2006 model year. Thanks in advance. Mike

Funny you mention about stuffing bananas in the differential to quieten it down. I had an old uncle, who passed away many years ago, who was a used car salesman all his life. I remember him talking about the same "banana additive" trick. Of course, we are talking about cars/trucks...

Just been going over our new to us 2004 Mercury Mountaineer and noticed a crack below the tailgate glass that extends into and part of the way around the Mercury emblem. Any good fixes for this? I understand others have experienced this.
