Whoop Whoop Whoop sound from front wheel...

My explorer is making a deep rhythmic sound between 20 and 30 mph. It's a woop, woop, woop sound that increases in frequency with speed, but disappears above 30 mph. It's coming from the front left tire area. I ruled out a tire problem by swapping the front and rear tires on the left...

    Explorer dies while driving...

Replaced IAC valve. Easy job. Now we'll see if there is any improvement.

    Explorer dies while driving...

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Just ordered a replacement IAC. The problem does seem to occur in colder weather.

    Explorer dies while driving...

fuel filter replaced in October 2011 (about 25,000 miles ago). As for hesitating on startup, my daughter says it does 'sometimes'.

    Explorer dies while driving...

Loses power steering and you just have to coast to a stop (hopefully with no other traffic around). All sorts of lights come on on the dash (my daughter drives it and I can't get more specific than that). Shut down the car and it starts back up again as if nothing is wrong. Battery...

    Truck just died

Exact same thing is happening to my daughter's explorer.

    Whining sound from alternator area...

2 months ago the alternator and battery died in my 2003 Explorer leaving me stranded at the side of the road during on of our snow storms here. I had the car towed to Sears Auto Center since it was in the mall I work at. They replaced the battery and alternator and things have been fine...

    rear liftgate rattle...

The Explorer has the rattle of the rear liftgate when driving over even small bumps in the road. I got in the back of the car the other day when my daughter was driving it, and the sound definitely comes from the lower part of the tailgate, in the area where it latches. I did a search and...

    Faulty Fuel Gauge

Checking back here on an old thread I started almost 8 years ago! The Explorer doesn't do it any more. That's after running a number of gas treatments through the system, and not topping off tank when filling up.

tapping noise in rear drivers-side interior

It looks like you're right. If I set any of the controls that divert air in the rear to the 'mid' position (neither hot nor cold) the sound goes away. It's louder in the cold position than in hot, but there is a sweet spot where the sound goes away completely. Now for the fix...

tapping noise in rear drivers-side interior

For the last day or so my wife's 2003 explorer has had a tapping sound coming from inside the car in the rear on the driver's side. The tapping is not speed-dependent. As long as the key is in the accessory position it will do it (engine doesn't need to be on). Tapping occurs about once per...

Battery died--now alarm keeps going off...

A couple weeks ago the dome light was left on and my wife's explorer's battery died. I recharged it, but ever since then the alarm will go off sporadically for no apparent reason. We have to leave the car unlocked to avoid the alarm sounding, which is pretty inconvenient. I tried...

    Rough ride lately

Well, I ordered a set of front bearings and once I install them I'll let you know how it went. Thanks for your advice.

    Rough ride lately

There is a humming sound at highway speeds, and almost a rumbling sound at lower speeds. No bouncing as would occur with worn shocks.

    Rough ride lately

My wife's explorer has been riding rougher and rougher over the last several months. Not the engine, but the suspension. We noticed it before switching from our summer tires to the snow tires, and I thought the old tires might be cupped, but the snow tires are no better. You can feel alot...

    Disconnected suspension part...

So basically that vertical hourglass shaped part just needs to be replaced? I initially thought there was a bolt missing that fastened that to the upper part.

    Disconnected suspension part...

I was under my wife's explorer the other day and noticed what appeared to be a suspension component that had come loose. It's located in the passenger side up front. The suv drives and handles well. Any input?

2004 explorer awd fuel filter replace

Found the schrader valve. It's right in the center of the engine bay. Pressure shot right up to 65 psi on starting the engine, so I guess that's not the problem.

2004 explorer awd fuel filter replace

I need to check the fuel line pressure to assess the condition of the fuel pump. I have the Chilton manual that explains how to check the pressure, but the picture of the schrader valve is too much of a close-up to show me where it really is. Where should I be looking. Thanks.

05 explorer wont start, any ideas

This sounds like the problem with my wife's 2003 explorer. She told me over the last few months, it occasionally wouldn't start (I don't remember her telling me that, so I didn't do anything about it ;)) yesterday we couldn't get it to start after multiple attempts. It cranks fine...

Your Experiences With 3rd Gen Reliability/Quality?

Don't even get me started about the rear 'applique'

Rear Lift Gate (upper one) Plastic broke in half

I was driving home when I heard a noise and looked in the rearview mirror and saw the applique flying through the air, landing on the pavement, and breaking in two. Fortunately, the car behind me was far enough back that it didn't hit him. It was in the 70s today so temperature wasn't the...
