Just got a 93' sport to play with, looking to fit 32x9.5 swampers.

Another though, I also plan on Lugging around a #2000 boat trailer and 2 place ATV/snowmobile trailer when I don't have access to the Wifes Mounty. Would I be ok with Warrior style (home made) shackles, or would the F150 swap be a better Idea? How is the flex with the F150 pack?

    gearing for 33's

I'm sure thats the price if you just drive it there and say "change my gears". If you have another vehicle remove the front diff and bring it in, they SHOULDN'T charge more than 1.5 hours labor then. My local tranny shop charges a flat 1.5 hours (120$) per diff if you bring him the axle/pumpkin...

Just got a 93' sport to play with, looking to fit 32x9.5 swampers.

I picked up a 93' sport cheap for a winter work rig + summer time fun truck. I have a set of 3/4 tread 32x9.5x15 swampers sitting around I'm going to mount them up on a set of stock wheels. I plan on doing 2" leveling coils up front as I should have enough adjustment, the ball joints adjusters...

spring under axle vs. spring over axle.

I haven't done a SUA to SOA on an explorer yet but I did on my Samurai. I noticed ALOT more axle wrap after the swap to the point I built a traction bar for it though the sami has ALOT weaker leafs than a explorer. I DID gain about 2" of flex though. I think its a better way to go then a...

    Cruise issues

Mine seems to be different then may other people's problems. I have 66k on my 02' V8 Mounty and the cruise will work just fine, on a smooth flat road, but when you hit a decent bump on the road the cruise kicks out but the light stays lit up. I cannot reset the cruise with out turning it off ...

    4.0 Or 4.6

Around town if you are EASY on the throttle the V8 will get around 15mpg (I've seen as low as 12.5mpg with a heavy foot and -30*f for a week). Highway has always been 19+mpg with my 4.6L mountaineer w/3.73 gears, even seen a 20.5mpg tank with 3 people and 300# of stuff in the back with the...

Cruise Control problems who do I believe?

Usually the Clock spring in the steering wheel if the indicator turns off or a bad on/off switch. If the cruise light stays on then the actuator took a dump (my experiances with Mark VIII's anyway) My Wife's 02' mounty is pissing us off as any moderate bump in the road kicks the cruise control...

Best Gas Mileage for modded 4.6L V8's

DON'T get bigger tires. My Mountaineer AWD showroom stock got 14mpg around town, 19.5mpg freeway (close to the window sticker). It needed new tires and I went 1" taller to 245/75/16's from 245/70/16's and my in town dropped to 12mpg and I now get 17-17.5 highway, Even taking account for the 5%...

    Plugs, wires and the like...

Factory ford Ignition is plenty good, many, MANY, mustang guys running stock ignition with tons of boost on both the 4.0L and 4.6L engines. Spend your money elsewhere.

    question about 4.6 V8 heads.

Plug replacement is a simple job (and should be done around the 50k mark IMO). just remove the intake tube and beauty cover and you shouldn't have any issues removing the coils to get at the plugs. There is a 8mm bolt holding each coil in place. I you don't mind an bit of extra work every...

    Cold Weather noises

your #1 sounds like one of the blend doors under the dash, mine does this also and the colder is gets the louder it is. when you shut your rig off all the climate control blend doors close. As soon as the key hits ACC when starting they go back to there position they were at last time it was...

all wheel drive problem Ford cant fix

Have you ever had the tranny flushed before. ANY other fluid besides MERCON V with cause issues with the torque converters "shuttering" in 5R55w and 4R70w transmissions. Most "lube" places use a fluid thats "compatable" with DextronIII/MerconV but it will cause issues.

    2002 Explorer Upper Ball Joint

several other ford cars have "intergral" ball joints in the upper control arm that CAN be replaced but its usually just about as cheap to buy the complete assmebly. My ford thnderbird was 44$ for just the ball joint, and 58$ for the whole arm/ball joint assembly. For 14$ more it saves ALOT of work.

    Vibration on acccceleration while turning

What Synthetic did you use, some of the synthetic's have friction modifer in them already and some don't require any.

pics of my new 265/70/16 A/T tires

I just put 245/75/16's on my Mountaineer and the Speedo is dead on accurate at 30/60/90mph verified by GPS. 245/75/16 is the same hight as a 265/70/16. With stock tires 30=29mph acutal 60=58mph actual and 90=87mph actual verifed with GPS. My Mounty came with 245/70/16's stock.

    Sudden mileage drop puzzling??

My guess is that if it was a backfire of some sort then I would start checking the Intake components or you may have even cracked the plastic intake causing a Vacuum leak. Check the PCV valve, PCV hoses, Intake tube, and MAF sensor/housing for leaks.

    23 MPG in my 4x4 V8 2002

I agree, something it wrong with your Mach 1, My Lincoln Mark VIII LSC with the DOHC 4.6L, 4R70W, and 3900# curb wieght got 27-30mpg with 3.23 gears and 27-28 with 3.73's in it now. Hell, taking it easy In town back and forth to work I average 20-22mpg.

    New 265/75 - now Exhaust/Tuner????

You will loose MPG but not as much as the odometer is showing. Anytime you add wieght to the tire/wheel combo its like adding 10X that wieght to the vehical. Wider tires also cause more wind resistance. Lets say the 265's are 5lbs more then the 245's, thats 20# extra worth of spining mass...

    HID / Xenon's on an 02+ ?

HID "retrofit" kits are JUNK in my opinion and they cause excessive glare to oncomming traffic since the factory headlights are NOT designed for use with HID bulbs. Either get HID housing (if avalible) or go with silverstars. Please be considerate of other drivers on the highway. I may be a bit...

    New 265/75 - now Exhaust/Tuner????

Are you taking into account that your speedometer/odometer are also spinning slower now by close to 10% (60mph on you speedo is now 64-65mph actual). which also means your traveling close to 10% more miles then your odometer states also (which accounts for ~2mpg of your lost mileage) and If you...

    Tire Size

one thing to watch for on thornbirds is that they are BIAS PLY and you will loose ALOT of quick reaction time and have VERY mushy handling. If your looking for a street friendly swamper give the TSL/Irok radials a look or the TRXUS MT's a look (TRXUS MT's will outlast the TSL/IROK/Thornbirds in...

    4.6L first mods?

One thing I would SERIOULY not do is install an Electric fan. I was going to install a tranny cooler on my 02' until I started following the tranny lines and found out these ONLY have an external tranny cooler (about 1/3 the size of the radiator between the radiator and the AC condensor with...

rotors of 02-up can't be turned?

Rotors and drums are stamped with a minimum thickness number somewhere and as long as they aren't turned down past that point they should be able to turn them.

    strange vibration

took my mountaineer on a long road trip (500 miles round trip) and above 55mph every once in awhile I can feel/hear a small vibration in the floorboards and it started happening with about 100 miles left to go in the trip. Its quick vibration almost like wind is catching something and causeing...
