    Dumb moves....

Well I've only had my 'xplorer a few weeks, but I already made one stupid move :) The plastic skirting around the rear wheel arches and rear door had taken a knock at some point in the past, it had sprung out leaving an unsightly gap so I decided to add a couple small bolts to hold it back in...

    Excessive rear driveshaft endfloat?

I pulled the hubs off the rear axle the other day to check the parking brake shoes (which were badly worn as it turns out). What worried me was the amount of 'free play' or endfloat in the driveshaft. It moves freely in and out by about 5mm or maybe more - like it was sliding on splines or...

    A bad day...

First warm and sunny day this year, a good day then to do some of those jobs I'd listed for the explorer. 1) Fit new shockers - only to find I'd been sent the wrong ones, no way will they fit without fouling the driveshafts. 2) Repack the wheel bearings - lost my big socket which fits the...

    ALC and replacement shocks

A search found nothing on this in previous threads... I've got a set of ProComp ES9000 shocks for my '97XLT, but what do you do about the ALC (auto level control)? Do I just unplug the sensors and air lines and leave the system switched off? Chris

    Best workshop manual?

Who publishes the best w/shop manual for the Explorer? I recently got a Chilton's but don't reckon much to it, the diagrams are not clear. All those **warnings and **cautions are beginning to piss me off too (like don't let your cat/dog drink the antifreeze - really! see page 3-39) I've...

    Throttle Cable

My throttle cable feels real tight - difficult to move off smoothly sometimes. I've no idea if the inner cable is actually frayed but I'm not taking a chance on jamming the throttle open, so it's a replacement job. I just wondered if this is a common problem with the Explorer? Only other cable...

    Roof lights - wiring route?

I have in mind fitting some lights, maybe using a custom made roof bar, but how do you route the wiring from up there? Is it normal to drill holes through the roof or is there a better way?? Chris

Anyone else here from the UK?

Hi all, I've just aquired a 1997 XLT, maybe in need of a little TLC, mods and accessories, are there are any sources for these in the UK? I just fell in love with the Explorer, looks good, drives well, and over here it stands out from the crowd. Of course, you have to be serious when petrol...
