1993 4.0L V6 idling issues and running rough/Transmission issues connected?

When mine sat in storage for 8 years rodents completely ate away most of the vacuum lines and some of the electrical wiring; in my situation someone decided to clean everything up for me before I picked it up leaving little (visible) trace of rodent damage or missing vacuum lines. There are...

    Help 93 Explorer radio harness

On my 93 (with premium sound / JBL) that gray cable feeds 2 amplifiers located behind the passenger side trim panel in the cargo area.

    CMP Squeak part 2

Replaced the CMP in my 93 a few weeks ago (with a 'new' Cardone unit) and it seems the squeak is worse than before I replaced it. The squeak is rhythmic to about half the engine speed (as in cam speed) most everything in the accessory drive is new except the alternator which turns much faster...

My explorer has been sitting for 5 years

X2 My 93 was parked in Los Angeles for 8 years; they chewed through the vacuum lines (couldn't tell where the lines had been) much of the wiring (bare copper all over) and chewed the HVAC box into pieces along with the vent fan (it's plastic) took awhile to sort out that mess. Fuel pump /...

    Early 93 CMP sensor removal

Does the length variation apply to the early (pre 95) engines? I noticed the part numbers were different for the later years depending on length but there was only one listed for my year. I have obtained what appears to be a matching sensor (externally) which is probably a reman and hopefully...

    Early 93 CMP sensor removal

(CMP aka Cam Position Sensor / Camshaft Synchronizer) Curious if anyone with an early 93 (one with a left over 92 engine / 90 TM heads / early accessory drive etc) has been able to remove the CMP senor without removing the lower intake manifold. I've searched and read plenty of threads of...

    Two odd problems

How did you get that code? Asking because it's not listed on the code list I have access to (93 Explorer, should be similar EEC) nor are there any codes that end in 0 which sort of makes sense if one is using a paperclip and counting the light flashes - how do you count a "0" light flash?

    1992 Ford Explorer Sport 4.0L v6 2nd engine noise

Center of engine is front / center as in near the water pump / timing chain cover OR top / center as in near / around / under the intake manifold? Does this occur when hot / cold / both?

    Buying a 94

10 years ago I could go to any auto parts gettin place and practically rebuild my entire first gen in the parking lot from their parts room (I reside in a section of LA where older vehicles are common) now days I have to make 2 or 3 stops at multiple gettin places for any project requiring more...

AL4D blown front seal and no O/D problem

So about 230,000 miles or so - do you know the history on this transmission? In addition to the front seal leaking a lack of movement indicates potential problems with the torque converter, front pump, bellhousing bushing / etc. This begins a discussion about "If you going to do A you should...

    Fuel pump wiring

All of the diagrams I've posted are for a 93 Explorer which should be the same as a 92... but probably a bit different than a Ranger... For the edification of others who may come upon this thread in the future - jammy jamin meter probes into a relay socket as pictured can cause future loose...

    Fuel pump wiring

Are you measuring this with the relay in or out? This appears to be a ground side switched circuit, 12volt power is fed from the PCM relay to 361 and the PCM takes 926 to ground to operate the relay, if you're seeing 926 hot with the relay in the circuit you are reading the voltage through the...

    Fuel pump wiring

There is a PCM monitor connection downstream of the relay before the inertia switch that goes to pin 8 on the PCM - the 7 volts MAY becoming from that pin as a feedback circuit checking for the presence of the pump or status of the inertia switch. Diagram attached.

    Need radio adapter.

I do not know if there is a specific adapter for that setup but you should be able to purchase the necessary connectors online or at a local place that (still) does car audio work and make your own. Bear in mind that your original radio uses an external amplifier (located under the passenger...

    crankshaft sensor location ?

The PIP (profile ignition pickup) sensor is a hall effect sensor; google hall effect sensor testing and there are a couple of videos on the topic. With a multimeter across the sensor leads (I would test at the IDM to verify wiring integrity and avoid being near any moving parts) my information...

    crankshaft sensor location ?

Passenger side front of the engine near the crank pulley below the water hose that goes to the heater core, you'll see notches on the crank pulley that are read by the sensor. The wiring runs up the front of the engine and ties into the harness near the water temp sensors, it is prone to...

Can a first gen ex's wiring harness for an auto work in a manual?

It looks like (from the book) the harnesses that you would be interested in are the same between auto and manuals, they just didn't use a few of the wires on the manual harness that were used on the auto for the shift solenoids. When looking at donor vehicles you will want to make sure you're...

Can a first gen ex's wiring harness for an auto work in a manual?

Specifically which harness are you planning on replacing? There are several dozen on the vehicle and I can't imagine you would replace all of them to correct a short in one of them. For example if you plan to replace the engine harness then we can look at the connector wiring views for that...

    Odd alarm issue

For clarity - you do have the factory remote keyless entry / anti theft system correct? Does the system function normally otherwise? I have not experienced it myself but I have read about window seal leaks allowing moisture into the area where the RKE / Anti theft modules are located...

Stalls pulling away from stop sign

Were all of these parts changed in an effort to correct the aforementioned issues or for some other reason? As in idles at higher RPM? Or when you're driving down the road at speeds over 45 the RPM sort of 'floats' when you give it gas rather than acting like the engine is directly coupled to...

1993 Ford Explorer Sport 4.0 L V6 Automatic Transmission (First car and I need help)

This means the fix will neither be easy nor inexpensive. Even if there is a magic easy fix, black / burned stuff in the pan of an A4LD is the kiss of death for the transmission.

1993 Ford Explorer Sport 4.0 L V6 Automatic Transmission (First car and I need help)

There was an "AC system poor performance" TSB that retrofitted the valve onto the earlier 1st gen models so 20ish years later the valve will be randomly found on all years of the 1st gen.
