Hey all selling my '91 splorer and dont have a replacement picked out yet. I want to pull my front locker and put stock side and spider gears back in. Well guess what, I chucked mine from the locker install many moons ago so I'm in need of a set. I have a spare cross shaft just need the gears...

    Gearing/tire?

Keep it stock. A lifted X my look cool but as a DD you fuel ecomomy will suck. Leave the lifts for weekend trail rigs. I put 31's and a 2" spring spacer with stock 3.73's and lost 3 mpg's.

    can i change a automatic to a 5 speed?

I had a donor rig ready in my garage with the 5 speed. I did the entire swap in a little over two days. It is a plug and play swap, no cutting welding or other custom modification needed. When you change the pedal cluster, un-bolt the wiring bulk head connector and you will have room to remove...

    R12 System Not Cold

The orifice tube is actually in the high side liquid line. Look under the accumulator and low side lines. That small black line that is coming from the front of the truck is where the orifice tube is. Take your intake tube and air filter box out, the liquid line should be easy to get to with...

    R12 System Not Cold

I just use a stout pair of needle nose. Grab the end of the tube and pull it out.

It should be OK add about 1/2 to your normal vacuum time.

    R12 System Not Cold

I recovered my R12 and put the right orifice tube in. NOW I have 42* air @ 60mph with an ambient of 94*. The technique I used to diagnose the problem is very very rarely used in automotive A/C. I'd say 85-90% of ASE certified A/C tech's don't know how to use a pressure/temp chart. My...

    R12 System Not Cold

My theory was wrong, but the tube is the problem, it is just the opposite. The condenser is "Flooded". The variable tube is causing a restriction for sure. I just checked my sub-cooled and super-heat temps. My pressures are normal but I have excessive sub-cool, my condenser shows the temp drop...

    R12 System Not Cold

Glacier, My Haynes shows 32oz, R-12 and I even called my local Ford dealer to see what they call for, 32oz R12 1993 and earlier. Just for ***** and grins I did recover 4oz, no difference in vent temp. New fan clutch today, no difference in vent temp. I think I fuked up putting that...

    R12 System Not Cold

The condenser and evaporator are factory 91, I just flushed them out real good. The fan clutch is not working, it roars for a few seconds and then wont hold a piece of cardboard to the grill. I'll recheck pressures after I get a good fan.

    R12 System Not Cold

At idle LOW= 45-50 HIGH 350 At 1500 RPM LOW 45 High 325 Running water on condenser @ 1500RPM LOW 35-40 HIGH 275 Running water gets the center vent temp to 45* Why is it not cooling at 50-60 mph???? At those speeds the radiator fan should have no effect. I blew out radiator fins then...

    R12 System Not Cold

I have a 91 splorer. Had a botched R12-R134a retro that puked the compressor. Replaced compressor, drier, orifice tube, flushed system, added 8oz mineral oil, pulled 5 micron vacuum for 1 hr, weighed in 32oz of R12. Our ambiant's have been 106*-119* since the above was done, I cannot get the...

    Haywire R12 Pressures

The R-12 to 134a conversion was botched when I got the truck. The oil was not removed correctly and thrashed the system. I'm EPA certified and can get R12 so I decided to put the system back the way it was designed. Putting R134a into a R12 system is mediocre at best. I flushed the system...

    Haywire R12 Pressures

I just overhauled my R12 system in my 1991 splorer. I changed compressor, orifice tube, accumulator, Vacuumed the system down to 30" for 2 hrs. I charged the system with 32oz of R12 like the Clymer manual lists. I weighed the R-12 in with a digital charging scale. When I was done I took it...

    HELP! HELP! Relay Location

Tbars you are awesome!!! I found that thread about 10 minutes after I asked for help. My feeble mind sometimes forgets to search before I ask. That is a fantastic thread, it should be a sticky. I got an autozone relay in there now till my local Ford parts man gets one in for me. The fix...

    HELP! HELP! Relay Location

Where is the fuel pump relay located on a 91 splorer??? My fuel pump will not shut off, even with key off. I have to pull the pump relay fuse or battery cable to get the pump to shut off. I'm thinking a stuck relay.

    D35 Making Noise

I put the spring inside the splined area of the inner shaft. It is a fairly heavy spring. I cannot get the spindle flush with the steering knuckle by hand. The last 1/8" has to be compressed by the spindle nuts. I like the way the mod you kinked to better than my setup. I think no matter...

    D35 Making Noise

I have a 1991 XL with Warn manual hubs. About 2 years ago I put a powertrax no slip in my front D35. I did the C-Clip elimination posted either here or the Ranger Station. Ever since I get a low grumbling type noise with the 4X4 engaged. It is much quieter in 2 high with the hubs still locked...

    Bad MAF's

No EGR on this year motor. Would the cylinder balance test on my scan tool detect a weak spark at idle? What about coil and plug wire resistance, I cant find them in my Haynes manual. What other way than carb cleaner can I use to find a vacuum leak. I'm not perfect and there is always the...

    Bad MAF's

Fuel filter is going to be done Monday. The fuel pressure looks good 38lbs with vac line on 45lbs when I pull the vac line. With all the receipts I have for new parts along with the aftermarket suspension $4500 is fair. What I have replaced All with warranty time remaining: Engine Long...

    Bad MAF's

At cold start-up my idle is around 1000 if I pull the IAC plug the idle drops to 500 and rough. Once the engine is warm and idleing rough at 500-600 nothing happens when I pull the IAC plug, however if I pull the MAF plug the Idle raises to 1000 and seems less shaky. At this point about...

    Fix it or sell it?

DUDE!!!! Get rid of the POS!!!!!!! I have a 91 that is a fukin money pit. It started with a IAC to fix a rough Idle. I now have 2 maxed out credit cards, bad MAF, Dead Battery, A/C Compressor puked, Blown Head Gasket( I got a freaking Long Block), leaking Power Steering pump, Starter Fried...

    Bad MAF's

I do have a scan tool. What tests should I run with it?? I did the complete run through the tool calls for, I got DTC codes 411 & 13. I think it threw these codes because my A/C is empty right now and the clutch will not come on.
