    AC Compressor Question

I've decided I'll try to do it myself. Just ordered 2 cans 12 oz on Ebay of Dupont 134A for 15.00 shipped, the seller is local. Since it's warm out I'm sure the mechanics are charging premium prices. Why not try it myself on such an old vehicle. I'll post back after the refrigerant arrives...

    AC Compressor Question

crunchie_frog Many thanks for the instructions. But I'm a little confused about jumping the pressure switch. When I tested to see if the compressor was working I removed the connector and jumped the wires on the two wire connector. You stated "you will need to jump the pressure switch...

    AC Compressor Question

Thanks for the information, I'll buy what you suggested. I did see the refrigerant specs under the hood but have forgotten the figure, I'll check again before adding the refrigerant. I'm still a bit uncertain of how to add the refrigerant. I know where the low side is and how to use the can...

    AC Compressor Question

This morning I went to check the pressure switch and discovered that the AC repair shop broke the locking tab on the connector to the switch. He then taped it in place with duct tape and put black electrical tape over the duct tape. Sloppy work habits, had he just used a screwdriver he could...

    AC Compressor Question

Thanks for the reply crunchie_frog. I'll try to briefly jump the pressure switch on the accumulator just to see if it goes on. Hopefully it will so I can rule out the compressor. Although having decent gauges, vacuum pump, etc, is the proper way to check I have no desire to spend hundreds of...

    AC Compressor Question

On my 95 XLT the compressor is not engaging. Two years ago I had refrigerant added (66.00) by a local shop and the AC worked fine all summer. Last year turned the AC on in the summer and again no cold air and the compressor did not engage. This time the same shop charged me 103.00 to add...

Key Chain Remote -Anti Theft -Key Pad No Longer Work

I suggest when you install a Rap Module, you unlock all doors then disconnect the battery. Be sure to write down the 5 digit code from the replacement Rap before installation so you can program it after the install. It's difficult to read the numbers once it's installed. I don't think you...

Key Chain Remote -Anti Theft -Key Pad No Longer Work

Glad I could help although you still have a problem. Since you determined the 7 key is not working on your keypad, if the 2nd replacement Rapp unit you got has a 7 in the 5 digit code, then it won't program properly. If you can, return to "pull a part" and get a replacement keypad, hopefully...

Key Chain Remote -Anti Theft -Key Pad No Longer Work

There were no sounds when I plugged in the replacement Rap Module. Either you got a bad Rap Module or you have other issues. YES everything worked properly other than the remote not activating\decativating alarm or door activation Follow the instructions below and you can get wiring...

    96 explorer 5.0 Eddie Bauer won't start

OP stated "Vehicle turns over just fine, I can smell raw few so I'm getting fuel.". Why would he need to have the battery and alternator checked?

Keyless entry number pad overlay or sticker???

As koda200 indicated you may have a wiring problem since your replacement keypad doesn't light either. Give a look at this link and scroll down to post # 4, it shows the wiring diagram for a 2002 XLT, I believe the colors should be the same on your 96...

Keyless entry number pad overlay or sticker???

My 95 XLT keypad did light up before it crapped out. I replaced it with a brand new aftermarket one I bought on Ebay. The new replacement also lights up. Been working fine and still looks good after 3 years.

Climate Control not blowing in 2000 Explorer

I don't have the EATC unit, just the regular one with the resistor on my 95 XLT. Earlier this year my fan stopped working, by doing the direct wire test to the motor confirmed a bad motor and not the resistor. The replacement motor was only 45.00 and the job was not difficult. I don't know if...

Bought a used ex with trans problem, how to sell?

Good to hear it's running nicely. So what was the final cost for the trans replacement? The tranny on my 95 XLT died at 69K miles in 2004. I had it rebuilt for 1,400 back then. Ten years later it still functions perfectly, hopefully yours will last that long.

    Cigar lighter issue

Before tracing if it’s a wiring problem it may just be a bad cigarette lighter element causing the fuse to blow. To check, assemble a wire with a 20 amp inline fuse and a ground wire. Hook them directly to the battery and see if the lighter functions properly. Another test would be to try the...

    Solved Radiator Overflow

Update -Problem Solved Turdle your suggestion was right on target, the hose was clogged as well as the expansion tank. I blew into the hose and couldn't get any bubbles. I like doing it right the first time so I removed the entire expansion tank unit (includes washer tank). What i discovered...

    Solved Radiator Overflow

Thanks for the suggestions guys on clamping the hoses and cleaning out the expansion tank. I'll do that tomorrow and will test on Thanksgiving Day when I will be taking a trip. I plan on cutting the hose on each end about 1" just in case it is stretched and not making a good seal. I'll...

    Solved Radiator Overflow

As mentioned I've already replaced the radiator cap and the issue remained. Thanks for the suggestion, I will check the hose but if it was cracked I would suspect it would shows signs of leaking which I don't see. Perhaps its small crack and prevents keeping the pressure a constant.

    Solved Radiator Overflow

On my 95 XLT the radiator was replaced last year at a repair shop. I don't use the vehicle much. I have been noticing when I check the water level in the radiator when it's cold it seems to be low. I also noticed after I top it off, then use the vehicle for awhile, the water level in the...

    cigarette lighter

 You are correct, the cigarette lighter will not work in the auxiliary socket. Now you have taught me something, I was under the impression the sockets were all the same, they are not. The socket in the dash has two locking tabs that hold the lighter in place, the auxiliary socket...

    cigarette lighter

Have you tried plugging both the old and new cigarette lighters into the auxiliary socket mounted on the passenger side near the floor? If they work, then as member Runnin'OnEmpty suggested, change the socket mounted in the dash.
