    5R55E w/P0741 code, TCC solenoid?

Hello all. 2000 XLT, 4.0 SOHC w/5R55E I did the EPC solenoid replacement about 13k miles ago (88k), and have recently been getting the O/D light flashing. Took it to Cottman yesterday to get the codes pulled, and all that came up was P0741. Of course they wanted to pull the transmission...

    5R55E 2-3 flare FIXED!

VB torque Yep, sure did, every single bolt, with my Craftsman dial inch-lb wrench. It's not slipped, missed a shift, or flared since, and the noise has not returned since Sunday. Of course, I've only driven it on Sunday and Monday of this week.

    5R55E 2-3 flare FIXED!

New occurrence over the weekend...after 4-5 miles driving (100 miles from home), and coming to a stop, I heard a sound like a bearing being spun from the area of the transmission. Lasted for 6-8 seconds. I took the transmission out of drive, put in neutral, and the noise remained. Revved the...

    5R55E 2-3 flare FIXED!

Took way too long since local dealer didn't have all the parts... It took me about 2 hours to get the old VB out of the truck: up on ramps remove the front driveshaft (rather than the exhaust) loosen and drain the pan remove the pan remove the VB Took me about 3 hours to get it...

    5R55E 2-3 flare FIXED!

Thanks to those that have been-there, done-that before me, I was able to fix this myself for a total of $270.05. Background: 2000 XLT SOHC, 5R55E, 88k miles, transmission serviced every 30k, not driven hard, and have only towed one item, my dad's pontoon boat one time last summer for about...

RANT: Dealer trying to screw me on pinion seal replacement...

I paid $1500 for a warranty that never got used. I don't care what "method" they've found that works, but preload is a real and important measurement for bearing life. Plain and simple, they don't care. If I had the tools to do it all myself, I would, but I don't. That's why I paid $1500...

RANT: Dealer trying to screw me on pinion seal replacement...

So, of course, they're denying everything at the dealer... a couple of conversation snippets with the customer relations manager at the dealership this morning, after playing phone tag with him all day yesterday (service manager is conveniently "absent") "I can't believe the service writer...

RANT: Dealer trying to screw me on pinion seal replacement...

Bought mine used as well in 2000... and it's been trouble-free for 55000 miles. This is about dealer dishonesty, pure and simple. I paid $1500 for the warranty, and they are trying to get out of the deal for chump change. I'll not stand for it.

RANT: Dealer trying to screw me on pinion seal replacement...

Please see the email I sent below: Good morning, Mr. X. Let me apologize in advance for the length of this email, but there are a lot of items that I wanted to cover and have written down. Please read on. My name is Bill, and I have a 2000 Ford Explorer that I brought to your service...

ABS light on...what to look for???

This just happened to my 2000 XLT 4x4 yesterday. ABS light on steady. Checked all fuses, wiring, disconnected battery, no help. After reading this thread, checked resistance of rear wheel ABS sensor. It was open, no resistance. Checked right front and got 444 ohms. I'll be picking up a new...

Hum/moan at idle fixed, '00 XLT SOHC...

Over the last month or two, my '00 XLT SOHC (77k miles) had developed an annoying hum/moan at idle, that had all the symptoms of a dirty idle air control valve (but the idle was just fine, steady as a rock). I had replaced the IAC valve two years ago for stalls at idle. Turns out that the PCV...

    Front end rattle SOLVED!

I had noticed a slight rattle/clunk in the front end last week, so went under there to take a look. I rotated the tie rod ends such that the body of the tie rod was parallel to the ground. It appeared that they were rocked back, making slight contact with the lower control arm area, causing a...

    PCV Location ????????

On my '00 4.0 SOHC XLT, it is at the rear of the intake manifold, right up against the firewall. When I replaced mine last year, Ford didn't have a replacement part number for it yet. I used a Purolator PV225. Hope that helps. Bill

    stupid headlight switch back light!!

Yep, just noticed mine was out the other day as well. Took me 25 minutes to get the old one out, and I am picking up two new ones today (one to install, one to have spare at the house). Thanks for posting the part number F57Z13B765AC; cost is $4.81 at my local dealer. I should have it...

    hard cold starting (no idle)

I have the 4.0L SOHC, so I removed the plastic shroud over the intake manifold. Two screws and remove the cruise control cable from the clips on the cover. The IAC valve is the cylindrical thing on top of the black intake manifold, center, towards the rear. With engine off, key OUT of...

Where to buy used oil dipstick?

Couldn't find a replacement handle for the dipstick, so I ordered one from Torrie at fordpartsnetwork.com. It was cheaper than the dealer, but they're having UPS shipment issues, and I still haven't received the item (ordered on 10/29!) I'll post back with final outcome of this ordeal...

Where to buy used oil dipstick?

My original message contained the line "Anyone know where else to find one, other than a junkyard?" I already gave a few of them a shot around here, but no dice. Bill

Where to buy used oil dipstick?

Yeah, I gave him a shot...$41.99 instead of the $49 from Ford. Found it for $37.10 from fordpartsonline.com, plus $7.50 shipping. That still seems like a lot of cash for a freakin' piece of spring steel with plastic on the end! Thanks for the heads-up though! Bill

Where to buy used oil dipstick?

While changing spark plugs this weekend, the rachet spun and broke off the t-handle portion of the oil dipstick on my 2000 XLT 4.0 SOHC. Ford wants $49 for it. Anyone know where else to find one, other than a junkyard? Thanks in advance. Bill

    CHECK HEATER HOSES NOW!

I have 46k on it now-out of the 3/36 time/mileage plan. I have extended warranty to 100k, but I don't know if it covers hoses. I'll certainly ask, but my warranty has a $50 deductible, and I certainly felt I could do it myself for a lot less than that.

    CHECK HEATER HOSES NOW!

As I was changing spark plugs and flushing coolant this weekend on my '00 XLT, I was checking over all the hoses. I found the upper heater hose, at the firewall, was almost completely rubbed through. It had rubbed away first layer of rubber, through the nylon strands, and almost through the...

Need factory changer for 2000 XLT

Thanks for all your legwork, David. Would you take $90 for the changer, mounting bracket, and cartridge, all shipped to Apex, NC (just outside Raleigh)? I'm trying now to figure out what harness I need, and how many arms and legs that will cost. Let me know if you want to make a deal...
