    Budwich has told you right. Check for 12 volts at the sockets with the brakes pushed. Check the ground connection in the socket and double check the bulbs do work. If I remember correctly all the brake lights on a 98 use the same feed wire from the brake pedal. Dean

    Brake lights won't work and I'm getting frustrated

    I don't know if the 2001 is the same, but I checked my 98 Ford Explorer wiring manual - All the brake lights share the same 12 volt feed line. The 3rd brake light has it's own ground wire. The left and right tail \ brake lights share the same ground wire. Dean

    If you change the transmission fluid, drop the pan and change the filter. Don't flush it, bad idea on high mileage vehicles. Use the Ford recommended fluid for your transmission year and type. Dean

    I would look under the steering column cover to identify the wires. On my 98, the connector is located behind the headlight switch, near where the headlight switch wires come out of the main wire harness. Dean
