    Engine swap for '93 XLT?

Yes, the 4L60E is mechanically identicle to the 700R4 for the most part. It would be best described as the grown up version of the 700R4. That being said, I'm an electronics geek so all I need is to make what ever I pick work mechanically, I can take care of the electronics side.

    Engine swap for '93 XLT?

Thanks for the reply. You raised some great points. I haven't really thought about a budget for the project. Yes it is a 4x4, I'm liking the GM tranny behind a rebuilt 95+ 4.0 idea. Any recommendations on GM xcases? As for the tranny, I'll be leaning toward the 4L60E. I've got a spare...

    Engine swap for '93 XLT?

My Explorer is getting tired, the M5OD needs a full rebuild, the 4.0 is on it's last leg. So I'm facing a choice, repower with a 5.0/AODE, or swap in a 4.0SOHC with what ever trans is stock, prefer to switch over to an auto due to the wifes inability to drive a stick. What's the easiest/best...

    Burlington/MtVernon/B'Ham/Everett area TTB alignment expert?

I've been a member of this site since I purchased my '93 Explorer and am now in need of someone that actually knows what they are doing on alignments. I've tried Sears, and other big box places and not a single one of them have done an acceptable job. Any leads? Dennis

    Help, Exploder no go.

After removing the tranny again, I found the source of the problem. I thought for sure the splines in the clutch hub had worn out and was skipping the splines. Upon removal, the plate that is attached to the hub had broken and was striking the springs located around the periphery of the...

    Help, Exploder no go.

After replacing the xfer case with a known good one, the exact same problem exists. I'm now in the process of removing the tranny, and replace the clutch with a new one. The sounds are exactly like it would sound if the splines on the clutch hub were worn. I've never seen this problem, but do...

    Help, Exploder no go.

Hi all. I've got a problem and am in need of some help. About 1 year ago while driving down the highway just after shifting my M5OD-R1 equipped '93 Explorer, into 5th gear, I hear a horrible spline meshing sound. There seems to be some spline issue, but I was able to drive another 5 miles to...

    How bad is my camber?

No lift of any kind is installed on the X. The larger tires are the only mods so far. Other than the poly bushings in all positions formerly occupied by the stock rubber bushings. Quad.

    How bad is my camber?

I have been having serious problems with my tire wear also. The tires are wearing on the inside almost to the point that the inner edge is worn out and the outer edge surface still has the little rubber nipples on it. I've had it aligned at Sears, and a local tire shop. The last place said...

Long road trip - advice welcome.

I just made a long distance drive with my newly acquired F350 and had an issue with the rear dif. Make sure you take along some 90 weight as it can be very difficult to find on the trip. I stopped at five different truck stops and only one had a quart @ $14.99. As it was my diff was leaking...

    diy radius arm bushings

I replaced the RAB's and pivot busihings a couple weekends ago on my '93 4X4 with new poly bushings. My truck had already been converted to the non-rivet system, but I removed the whole front suspension anyway. I was hearing metal to metal noise and I wanted to inspect all the moving parts...

    camber adjusters?

I just replaced them in my 93 and they were very easy. That being said, I replaced every wear component in the front end. If you are only replacing the camber adjusters, then assuming you have a good set of external snap-ring pliers then they will be fairly easy as well.

    interior lights

I have looked everywhere for a switch or other means of turning off the interior lights when the rear gate is in the up, or open position. It'll be a while till the drive-in theater is open again, but I'd really like to be able to park with the rear gate opened and not interfere with others...

    Power steering pump replacement

I just drove my '93 Explorer from Seattle to Missouri and had a problem with the PS pump squalling like a banshee. It still works, but I plan on returning to Seattle next week and want to replace the pump prior to the trip. That being said, will a A1 Cardone pn: 20-6244 pump fit on the 4.0...

    How-To: 1st Gen Ball Joints / U Joints / Spindle Bearings

axle pivot point bushings Has anyone upgraded the axle pivot point bushings to poly replacements. I'm just getting ready to start my front end upgrade and have obtained all the replacement bushings to get this done, but have only done it on the D28 in my Ranger, once I got the rubber ones out...

    Poll: Seattle anyone

Yet another Bremerton member here, though live in Toronto for work. I will be home this weekend, and working in Bothell the following week. Hope to get some trail runs in while I'm there, as well as some work on the Explorer. May have to drive it to Yuma Arizona in a few weeks. Dennis

So, are there prizes for the farthest traveled? If so then I should win easily, I'll be flying in from Toronto Ontario Canada for this meet. Just hope my flight doesn't get delayed. Dennis

    2008 NWE gathering

Thanks for sending me a private message about this meet. I'm living in Cambridge Ontario Canada now, and working in Calgary for the past 2 weeks, but will be flying home to Bremerton on the 29th of Feb. I was hoping to get new tires on the Exploder before taking her out to Tahuya again, but...

    86 Ranger fuel tank?

I've owned my 86 Ranger SuperCab 4x4 since it was new and I'm now trying to fix a problem that has basically existed since it was new. The original 2.9 finally blew up with 250K miles and I replaced it with a 4.0. The original fuel tank only held like 11 gallons and with the original engine...

    5spd Transmission rebuild....M5OD

Ryan; Have you completed this writeup? Just curious as I picked up a core from the salvage yard yesterday and it's going to need a rebuild before I put it in the Ranger. Also, do you still have that unique puller contraption handy? I think I'll pop the rear enclosure off tonight and see...

Look what arrived today (hint: Brake Upgrade)

Hey Ryan; Good to meet you today at NAPA. Those lugs I purchased were not the correct ones afterall. The Jeep CJ-7 was supposed to be 1/2x20 0.625 knurl also, but apparently either I was sold the wrong ones, or this jeep is not stock. Dennis
