    Really confusing Electrical Problems

For what it's worth I used to have a similar problem but it would take 3-4 days of sitting to kill my battery. I knew there was a draw but couldn't find it. As it turned out, and this is kinda stupid, the switch for the glove box light was broken and was stuck "on". Of course I couldn't see it...

    Rust repair questions

No kidding, Iowa has to be a rude awakening after living in Texas. This is my first attempt at body work and I tell ya, I think I bit off more than I can chew! For anyone that wants to see what a truly cancerous 1st Gen looks like, take a peak at a few pics...

    Rust repair questions

All ideas are appreciated, and yeah I would have to go south for a donor. Anything around here just gets killed from all the road salt!

    Rust repair questions

First off, yes I did search but couldn't find what I was looking for and second, lots of thanks to ld50 for his awesome rocker replacement thread! Two questions: 1) I have some surface rust on the bottom of all 4 doors and I'm planning on putting rocker guard on pretty well the whole bottom...

    93 Ford Explorer BATTERY QUESTION

And right down to basics, is the battery secure? Every time an unsecured battery takes a bad jolt it shortens the life of the battery. If you're going to keep it- clean it up (posts etc...) and like Mike said, get those cables replaced but when you put it all back together make sure the battery...

93 xlt Vacuum & hard start

Thanks Mike and MayJan! Yes I did start doing some searching on the modulator but I never would have, had I not been steered there. Never in a million years would I have suspected the tranny had something to do with the vac lines blowing apart. But I guess that's why I keep my day job and only...

    Shock Removal Tool

I don't know what you have out east but I expect it's the same as here on the prairies. I usually luck out at Partsource, the more useful cousin of Canadian Tire. They usually have either exactly what I'm looking for or at least something close enough that I can make it work. Either that or...

93 xlt Vacuum & hard start

Sorry, I added 1 too many 0's, 700rpm idle and 400-450rpm in gear with brake. Yeah I suppose that would've looked a tad high :-)

93 xlt Vacuum & hard start

Hello everyone and thanks to all for invaluable insight and advice. In recent months I've run into several problems and always seem to find an answer somewhere on here. Lately I've had 2 issues that seem to be related and I haven't been able to chase them out. 1-The truck never starts on the...

    Thoughts on Air Box Mod

Well I dunno about you guys, but I'm not planning on running through 3' of water anytime soon. What I had thought about was some kind of pre-filter. Like some of that white spongy stuff they use in the old breathers, cutting that to fit in the very end of the new intake and capping it (maybe a...

    Flowmaster, remove cats?

I know I was thinking about doing the very same thing and I want to bump up to 2 1/2" pipe all the way back and I don't have to worry about passing emissions (sorry 'bout that to you green folks). When I bought the truck I had 1 cat cut out and the 2nd one punched and I really never noticed a...

    Thoughts on Air Box Mod

Hey everyone, since I trust the forum with more than my life, I trust it with my Explorer, I was wondering if anyone could take a look at a mod I stumbled across on the web and let me know what you think. Thanks Gary http://ford40.com/airbox.shtml

    Oxygen sensor bad?

Thanks Mike, and Glfrederick you both have given me a lot of food for thought. But I gotta say I resent the both of you because now my nice mellow Sunday afternoon sittin' around doing nothing will instead be spent in the garage. Seriously though, awesome feedback from both of you and I'm...

    Oxygen sensor bad?

Yeah, it probably is just the O2. Here's how the whole drama unfolded: Back in early January we had a wicked blizzard plow through, worst in 50 years so they say, and the city darn near shut down, including school buses. So I jumped in the ol' Ford and head to the school to rescue my stranded...

    Oxygen sensor bad?

Geez Mike, relax a little. I did pull the codes and although I don't have them in front of me, the only active codes related to O2 sensor. My kudos to all was not intended as a slight to anyone but it seems you interpreted it as such. As the posts have said, the codes may come but might relate...

    Oxygen sensor bad?

Wow guys, just wanted to thank everyone for their input on this, gave me some ideas. Mine(93 XLT 4.0 pushrod, auto) is doing the exact same thing with the on again off again CEL, running rich and all the soot. I ran the codes on mine and also came back w/faulty O2 sensor although I'm not...

    1993 Ford Explorer Engine Light

I'm having an almost identical problem with my 93 XLT. In the past 3 weeks or so that annoying light has started coming on. It never stays on and doesn't seem to run any different. Actually I spent an afternoon checking for vacuum leaks, changing plugs etc and when I was done it really ran alot...

    1993 Front Differential

Thanks! I'm going to check the side, that never occured to me. If that ends up being it then I'm still ahead of the game. I would have hated to pull it all aprt only to find that wasn't the problem!

    1993 Front Differential

First, I apologize if the info I'm looking for is somewhere in the forum, I searched but could not find it. Anyway, the front diff on my 1993 XLT has developed a leak. Normally sealing the diff is no big deal, just take off the cover, clean it up, seal it and you're off right? Not quite...
