    93 Explorer - bogging down

I ran some fuel injector cleaner through it yesterday and it seemed to run a little better. I bet whatever was in my filter is also in my fuel lines between the tank and filter. I had changed that fuel filter about 18 months ago so I think I got some bad gas somewhere with junk in it. I think...

    93 Explorer - bogging down

I've been searching the board this morning for similar problems, but haven't run across anything that is like mine. Mine was running great until last Wednesday. I went to start it and it was difficult to start. Once it started it hesitated and every time I pushed the gas it would just about cut...

TTB springs too stiff. What else is there?

There is a writeup on installing XJ coils on an Explorer on this site somewhere. I've read it before, but can't remember where I saw it. If I remember correctly for a 2" lift you'd actually use 4" XJ coil springs because they will compress from the weight of the Explorer. I'm going to be picking...

    Cruise Control

My Chiltons manual has a diagram of the fuses, but they are not correct. I've got a problem with my cruise control for my 93 also, but really haven't had a chance to start diagnosing it. I really don't drive it very long distances so I haven't worried about it yet, but it's on the list of things...

    Shock Removal Tool

I would just stick a long socket over the top and use it to pry the top back and forth until you break it off. That's what I did on a set of shocks that I rounded off and couldn't get anything in there to cut them. Roger

94 XLT rough running engine/tranny issue

I had a Ranger with the 2.9 that took a bad tank of gas, but completely stalled it only 50 yards from the gas station. A guy from the garage across the street came out and siphoned mostly dirt and water from my tank. The gas station was closed immediately and they found that one of their fuel...

    1991 Exploder Hesitates/Misses/Shakes

When I bought my 93 X about 6 weeks ago it had a hesitation and idled rough. I figured it was plugs and wires so I bought it anyway and changed them the first weekend I had it. I found that the rear passenger side plug (the tough one) had broken and the electrode in the center was missing. The...

    Micheline VS Kumho

I've never had the Michelin Cross Terrains, but I've had the XC LT4s and LTX MSs and never had a problem with them. I put almost 70,000 miles on the LTXs before they needed changing on my 96 Explorer. I haven't tried a set of Kumhos yet, but I've heard good and if the price is right I might give...

I'm installing shocks right now, hit roadblock!!

I broke both of mine off when replacing the shocks on my 93. NAPA makes a stud kit for this problem and it only costs $3-$4 for each side. Installation was pretty simple. I found the kit when I did a search on this site. I'll see if I can find it again or I'll see if I have the NAPA part number...

    Coil Spring Spacers

I just picked up the F150 coil spacers last week from the Ford dealership here in Michigan. My parts ran $16.85 for one side and $23.95 for the other. I still haven't installed them because I'm fighting rear frame bushings right now so I can replace my shackles with lift shackles. Roger

    Shift Motor Install

I didn't even think about letting the motor do it's own shifting to make sure it's correct. I'll give that a shot tonight. Thanks

POST PICTURES OF EXPLORERS WITH 31inch and 32inch TIRES!

Blocks only work to lift vehicles for spring over axle applications. Explorers are spring under so blocks will not work. Add a leafs and/or extended shackles can lift the rear of an Explorer 2-3 inches if that's what you are looking for. I don't suggest blocks even in spring over though unless...

    Shift Motor Install

I know there's a lot of information on rebuilding a shift motor and I plan on rebuilding mine, but I bought one recently from a guy on here to install now and rebuild mine as a spare. when I tried installing it I can't get the triangular shaped rod from the tcase to fit into the hole in the...

    When installing new rear shackles

I just received my new shackles the other day and will put them on my X in the next week or two. I have done a bunch of shackle replacement stuff on my CJ7 and I found that penetrating oil every day for a week before the work begins helps a bunch. I usually hit the bolts with my little propane...

    Couldn't do RA Bushings

I haven't changed my RA bushing on my X yet, but when I changed mine out and put the 6" lift on my Bronco I didn't have any air tools. I have a 48" breaker bar and then I had a 6 foot piece of steel conduit. I slid the conduit over the breaker bar and had to use very little force standing 8 feet...

    Shocks too short

I ran the Rough Country shocks on my fullsize Bronco when I installed my 6 inch lift and put 35s on it. I never had a problem with them and they seemed to work really well. Roger

    bumper replacement dilema

I have a friend of mine that is looking to start a side job of building bumpers and sliders in the evenings in his garage. He built a really nice bumper w/swingout for his Blazer and I think I'm going to have him build me a bumper w/swingout for my 93 sport. I'll post pics when I get it done and...

    is james duff reliable?

I just ordered my first James Duff part the other day. I've only had my Explorer for about a month now, but I'm just going over everything really well and found one of my rear shackles has rusted through and it is twisted. James Duff is having some kind of moving sale and has a bunch of stuff on...

    cheapest paint job possible

I rolled the paint on my CJ7 a year or so ago and I've had people ask me where I had the paint done. I used Rustoleum high gloss black and diluted it with 10% mineral spirits. I rolled it on with a 4" sponge roller and it turned out really good. A lot better than I had previous done with a...

    Explorer value

I just joined this site today. I bought a 93 Explorer Sport 4x4 this weekend for $1350. It has 83,811 original miles, but there is some rust and the 4x4 isn't working right now. I'm going to wait for it to get warmer to diagnose the 4x4, but I'm guessing it's the shift motor. This is my 4th X...

    Newbie in the House

Hello everyone, my name is Roger and I just bought a 93 Explorer Sport 4x4 Friday night. I had been looking for a vehicle for my daughter to learn to drive with and this fits the bill. I'm not new to Explorers though. I had a 97 EB with the 5.0 and AWD that I did a few mods on. I have also owned...
