oil gauge not rising when engine is cold

oil guage sending unit resolved? alltimes - did you resolve your oil pressure guage issue? I have a 2000 XLT SOHC that is exhibiting exactly those symptoms now that it is getting colder here. Did you change out the OP sending switch?

Forward and Reverse Now, but STILL no OD after rebuild

Hey Ho! We are driving again. Transmission is back in vehicle with forward AND reverse. Two snafus took care of the NO REVERSE after the rebuild. #1: The solenoid bracket on the VB was originally reinstalled without looping the valve positioner correctly causing the valve to sit too far into the...

    trans rebuilt, differential now?

So if the tag reads: S612E 55 88 OD28 this would NOT be a limited slip differential? And it would be normal for one wheel to be the forward drive wheel, and the other wheel to be the reverse drive wheel?

    trans rebuilt, differential now?

This vehicle must have a replacement driver's door - there is no sticker on the driver's door. Does the differential tag identifiy whether it is open of LSD?

    trans rebuilt, differential now?

Sounds like it is hard to diagnose then when all 4 wheels are up on jackstands. I will need to check the ID tag of the differential. Does the tag indicate whether the diff. is OPEN or not?

    trans rebuilt, differential now?

Completed rebuild of 5r55e, reinstalled (again) and finally have forward AND reverse! But, the rear end appears to be bad now. One wheel spins in forward gears, the other rear wheel spins in reverse gears. Only one spins forward in 4WD high, so I guess I don't have that either. Really would...

    5R55E rebuilt, still no reverse

Possible cause found. Bracket which holds 4 shift solenoids also hooks around the knob on the plug for 2-3 shift bore. Bracket was not hooked, causing valve to sit too far into the bore. I have excellent pics from the web site where I found the info, but don't know how to post.

    5R55E rebuilt, still no reverse

Yep - I have all of these, but am looking for an illustration that will show what bore #203 is, and #204, #205, etc. I KNOW I saw one of these somewhere! Thought it was the Sonnax site, but those are numbered with Sonnax references.

    5R55E rebuilt, still no reverse

Yeah, I've read their stuff. One of the things that helped me the most in pulling out the valves was heating up the VB with a hairdryer. Sounds dorky, but it really helped! Do you happen to have an illustration of the VB with the different bores identified by number? I know I saw one...

    5R55E rebuilt, still no reverse

Glacier - If I get to the ultimate frustration level, I may have to do that. But I still have some things to try first, like Bores 203,204, & 205. The Reverse band appears to be in correct position, and when I put a small screwdriver down the Reverse Servo hole, it has a spring tension. So...

I need to keep digging then.

    5R55E rebuilt, still no reverse

When I pulled the reverse servo out today, it was VERY difficult to get out of the cylinder. How tight should the piston sit in this cylinder?? Is it possible that the double-lipped o-ring in the update kit is causing the piston to be too tight, and stick?

    5R55E rebuilt, still no reverse

Yes, I used the in/lb torque wrench on the VB bolts. It is a very inexpensive one, but seemed to be working properly. So you know how much the boost valve fix from Sonnax will raise the pressure? How many psi?

Still No Reverse After Rebuild of 5R55E Valve Body

Sounds like a very similar problem to my NO REVERSE 5r55e. Rebuilt valve body, I did the tranny too with clutches, bands, and new low & intermediate servos. I too used the Ford update with new separator plate, and the Superior shift kit. But how did you check for Manual First gear?

I believe I may have missed one o-ring. The "Fluid Pump Shaft...

    5R55E rebuilt, still no reverse

Reverse pressure is 80 psi at low idle, 87 psi at 1000 rpm, 92psi at 1500 rpm and 94psi at 2000 rpm. Is this enough pressure to activate the servo piston? I really don't want to completely disassemble the guts again, but will if I have to.

    5R55E rebuilt, still no reverse

I had a chance to check the pressures, and found that at low idle in all ranges the pressures were about 5 to 8 pounds below the minimum acceptable range. But there was definitely pressure, which rose proportionately with increase in RPM. I did not go to WOT for stall test, due to the low...

How do I tell? The transmission output shaft definitely turns in 1.

    5R55E rebuilt, still no reverse

I believe so. My next step is to do the pressure tests. Perhaps I have a leak in the hydraulics somewhere. My other thought was the wiring harness in the valve body - maybe signal is not getting to solenoids?? Found a cheap hydraulic guage at Norther Hydraulics for $11 - with zero to 600...

    5R55E rebuilt, still no reverse

I've completed my rebuild of the 5r55e off my 2000 4.0L SOHC. Could not have done this without the 5r55e rebuild diary - THANK YOU, Glacier!! All hooked up to car except drivelines. Everything looks good in P, N, D, 1, 2. Backup lights come on in R, but the xfer case output is not spinning...

    trans cooler line Identification

Thanks, BB. So the top line has fluid running From the Transmission TO the Cooler? And the bottom line has the fluid running from the Cooler TO the Transmission?

    trans cooler line Identification

Can anyone tell me which oil cooler line is which on the 5r55e? I need to flush the transmission cooler, and want to be sure I connect the cleaner to the intake line for the cooler.

Lose reverse when Trans is warmed to normal Temp

Lundrv-when I called our local Ford parts dealer, I was given a different part# for the manual shift shaft: 7C493. Price quoted was $35.51. Thought that was quite high.

Lose reverse when Trans is warmed to normal Temp

BB - Thanks for posting the pic of the two screwdriver method for removing the pin. It worked like a charm; the pin came right out!
