    ODB II reader recommendations?

OBDLink MX Bluetooth is what I use for general purpose. OBDLink EX is what I use for programming or flashing changes that cannot be disrupted.

How to find factory keyless entry code for 2018?

Forscan can retrieve the code from the vehicle.

2012 explorer dead battery... locked out!

That key opens the driver's side door. Get some PB Blaster and squirt it into the lock cylinder, then rake the key in and out fully several times. Keep repeating until the key is able to turn the lock. This could take quite some time and many attempts, you want to get that lock working again...

2012 explorer dead battery... locked out!

For the Intelligent Access Keys, they come with the emergency key 'inside' the FOB. If you mean that you have a regular key fob and the key won't unlock the door, your lock may be corroded and need to be cleaned. You can spray some WD40 in the lock and rake the key back and forth many times...

2012 explorer dead battery... locked out!

Are you saying you can't find the emergency key, or that it's missing from where it's supposed to be? An experienced locksmith can pick the lock where the emergency is supposed to go. Experienced locksmiths will also have vehicle model specific tools for wedging the corner of the door to...

2015 Explorer Limited Dash Rattle under dash speaker

don't forget to check the cowl. mine was quite deteriorated after only a few years and started rattling against the lower windshield. the source can easily be mistaken for being in the dash.

Recall 24S02 2011-2019 Ford Explorer SUV Recalled Over Trim Piece Issue

I used a black automotive rubber silicone sealant to lift up the edge and seal under it to the glass. Then went over it one more time for a perfect look. Don't know how many years I will get out of it, but if it goes 5 years before making the horrible buzzing sound, I will be happy.

2017 lost key(s) fobs now what?

The Forscan method is not for the faint of heart. If it is interrupted for any reason, it may require a tow to the dealership to recover from. Forscan can add a key, but requires two working keys physically in the vehicle. This is low risk and a failed attempt has no impact on the vehicle...

Recall 24S02 2011-2019 Ford Explorer SUV Recalled Over Trim Piece Issue

I wonder how this affects me. Both of mine had separated and I ended up using aftermarket parts to replace them because the lead time for Ford Parts was too long.

    ABS Light is on constantly

There is a single speed sensor on top of the rear axel. Very easy to get at and not that expensive to repair. The code is telling you that the speed from that sensor does not match the speed from the transmission or from the two front sensors. Be prepared to clean some corrosion off to get it...

2013 Ecoboost 2.0 crank wheel alignment

I know this is an old thread, but here is a YouTube video that might help someone (just ignore the commentary complaining about the engine design).

2018 Explorer Windshield moldings side and bottom breaking down too soon

If you get the 'cheaper' aftermarket moldings, get a tube of black silicone for autos. After I installed mine, I had to add a bead where the rubber is supposed to meet the glass to get a more professional look (and likely a better seal too).

    2013 XLT moonroof won't open

Just chiming in to add that with a good 1/4" socket set with a universal and a couple extensions, I was able to lower the headliner about 6" and change the motors without having to remove the headliner completely. I just removed the two front pillar trim pieces. Only thing that sucks is Ford...

Replacing stereo with custom, yet maintaining car-controls

I'll second that I went the Sync 3 route (about $800 on Amazon) and don't regret it. Simple swap out with many youtube videos to walk you through the swap. Getting the connectors for the USB Ports off/on were a pretty tight fit though (ideally you have someone with small fingers). Once on...

A/C went from low to full blast by itself

With an OBDII reader and Forscan, you can monitor the individual button presses on the FCIM to see if you are getting "ghost" presses, which would explain the behavior that you are describing. If that's the case, some have reported success with removing the FCIM and cleaning it. If you are...

Disabling 2017 Explorer to prevent theft

To prevent towing theft, you need to park with the vehicle blocked in or chain it to a structure (through the frame, not just a wheel). That said, it will only slow down a determined thief, but usually the goal is to make the other vehicles look easier to grab compared to yours.

Importance of vehicle being level for oil change?

I used to since they can do a better inspection of the suspension system on a lift, but now I'm missing the entire under shield for my '12 explorer and their constant 'filter' checks have resulted in numerous stripped/missing fasteners. The kids in the quick lane section just don't respect the...

2000 4.0 SOHC just quit while driving on the highway

Thanks for the update. Having replaced a fuel pump once, it's not that hard to drop the fuel tank and change it (unless you have so much corrosion you are afraid you will snap off bolt heads). I went back through your posts and I may have missed it, but I don't think you said that you changed...

Brake lights stay on until I pull up on the brake pedal

On the Brake Pedal bracket, there is supposed to be a small rubber pad that hits the light switch (there is also one on the clutch pedal if you have a manual). After 20 years, these disintegrate and fall apart. They look something like this (on amazon ) When it falls off, the pedal won't...

Importance of vehicle being level for oil change?

Honestly, I'm able to change mine without lifting the vehicle. After you do it once, you will feel more comfortable removing/installing the oil filter by feel. If you need an oil filter wrench to remove the filter, it was likely overtightened. Installing the new filter should always be done...

2000 4.0 SOHC just quit while driving on the highway

Don't know if you got your pressure gauge set yet, but with Forscan and an OBDII reader, you can view the fuel pressure value from the PCM. Good Luck.

    2018 Ford Explorer Limited

If a wheel bearing is making that much noise that you notice it, a trained mechanic should be able to diagnose it on a lift. Take it to a different dealer/shop for an inspection of the entire suspension and drivetrain. Let them know about the noise. Keep in mind, an unbalanced tire can also...

    Help! Centre console ghost

2011-2015 were capacitive touch. When I last looked into using the 2016+ FCIM, the connector was different. The one thread I read where someone changed the connector to get it installed, not all of the buttons worked. You will have to wait for others with more experience, or find the threads...

    Help! Centre console ghost

I thought the 2012-2015 were only compatible with each other. Has anyone gotten the newer 2016+ FCIM to work on our older explorers?

    Help! Centre console ghost

You won't like the answer. The Capacitive Touch button is failing. You will likely have to scour junkyards/ebay to find a replacement. Due to the failure rate, it can be challenge to find a good replacement (make sure the seller is reputable). If you use forscan, you can confirm which button...
