    outgrowing the sport

Is there really any way to know if it has problems? Shifts firm still, fluid is still bright red and smells unburnt. Would I be better off looking for and hopefully finding a 1500 hemi 4x4 w/ ls and quad cab? Could I realistically expect another 5-10 years out of a 1500 with 60-120,000 miles or...

    outgrowing the sport

It`s an automatic. My biggest concern is longevity and tco. I don`t want to spend a lot or even need to spend a lot of time fixing things. I don`t really have time to undergo bigger projects like I used to. 253,000 sure seems like a lot and not real sure of what problems could come up.

    outgrowing the sport

That's what I've been reading about the CTD trucks. I figure other maintenance items are going to be regular no matter what truck I get, suspension and steering and brakes and such. My biggest concerns as always would be the transmission. My dad is asking $12,000 for his 04 CTD and I've been...

    outgrowing the sport

A sad day is looming ahead. I've had my Explorer for almost 5 years now and I'm definitely hearing the death rattle in my engine and my family is growing. We've got a 4 year old and one on the way. With the dog and future plans we're really starting to outgrow the Explorer. She's got my blood...

    t-case locked?

Gotta get the shaft dropped today, does anyone have a how to on dropping this so I can keep driving the explorer?

    t-case locked?

Is there anything I need to do to make sure things are sealed once the shaft is off, is it just the front that needs bolts removed or the rear too? The rear looks more like a CV and I see 6 bolts there, do those get removed to take the shaft out. I saw on another thread it's a Torx 30 to removed...

    t-case locked?

So I seem to have misplaced my Chilton manual. What tools do I need to remove the shaft. I found 6 small bolts on the rear of the shaft - the part that connects to the t-case and the front seems like there are only 4 bolts that hold the u joint caps on. I've got some WD-40 soaking in now. The...

    t-case locked?

Thank you for your replies. How difficult of a job is it to drop the front driveshaft? Anything I need to know about driving without it on the vehicle?

    t-case locked?

Pretty sure my sploder's transfer case is locked up now, not even really sure how. Background for help with my diagnosis. I have the 4.0L SOHC, transmission was rebuilt around 120k miles and I now have about 160k. ABS hasn't worked since I replaced the wheel hubs. I've also done the brown...

    ABS light

Cool, thanks, I work for the Advance Auto Parts ecommerce team so that works out well. I'll have to swing by the local one soon. Appreciate the advice.

    ABS light

So I replaced the front wheel hubs on my 99 sport 4x4, one was done by Pep Boys while I was in southern Indiana and the other I purchased the matching part from RockAuto for the right side when I got back just to be sure that I had taken care of everything and wouldn't need to worry about it...

    Need help asap!!!

So I got it home, had a Pep Boys replace the axle bearing and hub assembly on the left. Fixed the noise, so now I'm thinking I should most likely replace the other side as well. But I do notice a hum sounds more like it could be the wheel bearing as well, but not as pronounced as this was. I...

    Need help asap!!!

I'm out of town and on the way. I started to hear some weird noises from the front end, assumed that it was the sway bar link. I replaced it while I've been down here. I knew that it was going out as I was heading down anyways. I tried to replace it before I left, but couldn't. After replacing...

    High Flow Exhaust Overhaul

Some thoughts I myself have also upgraded from the stock air box to a K&N FIPKII and did my own Magnaflow "cat-back" exhaust on my 99. Granted, it's different from the 94 with the OHV. But I do have to point out Aldive's mileage monster, from the minor changes that he did with his he gained...

    evap leak

Can a regular code reader pick that up for me, like one that AutoZone would have? I know my dad has a reader too. I know that there's no way they're the Ford readers, but would that at least give me the code number?

    evap leak

The code that AutoZone told me was a small evap leak - saying it's most likely the gas cap.

    evap leak

This has been an ongoing problem for me. I've had the Check Engine light come on and go off more times than I care to count now. At first it seemed as though it was only when the humidity was high outside and when it was nice the light would not come on or would shut off. Now that the weather...

    Passenger Side Mirror Replacement...

junk yard The local yard around here wanted $99 for a power mirror for mine when a deer ripped mine off. I searched on Google Shopping and found one for about $30 with shipping.

    Dented gas tank

I tried to do some wheeling about a week ago, well ended up breaking the power wire going to the trailer wiring that I got. When I was removing it, I noticed that it looks like I landed on a big hunk of mud. Which seems to have left a nice rounded dent in my gas tank. Any ideas on how to fix it...
