    4r70w front seal leak questions

There is also a front pump seal...it's a large o-ring and thin paper gasket that fits under the front pump assembly and around the housing. It is rare for these to leak...but possible. If you have to pull the pump for any reason, these will have to be replaced. And you just might have to pull...

    4r70w front seal leak questions

Wait...that breather should be connected to hard tubing. I'm trying to recall. I built one of these for my 68 Torino and I'm almost positive there is a hard tubing that makes a loop and drops down by the front of the trans. Wish I could remember for sure how that goes... Maybe that hard tube...

    4r70w front seal leak questions

Looks red to me from a couple of those photos... The drain plug was a good idea. That is easy to check. Pull the inspection cover and take a peek. But the last two 4R70W converters I had didn't have one... :(

    4r70w front seal leak questions

Front pump leaks can be from several reasons...converter seal, pump seal, converter wear, converter seal has fallen out, etc etc. The only way to find out is to pull the trans and inspect it. At that point...with that many miles...I would probably get it rebuilt. Where time is of the essence...

    I messed up very badly

I would be shocked if you can't fish that pencil out with nothing more than the intake being removed. My guess is it's caught up in the intake valve. I just can't see an entire pencil getting past the valve. The rubber o-ring is no big deal...don't worry about it. The plastic piece will...

Do they make an aftermarket transmission dipstick ?

Absolutely. Lokar, B&M are just a couple sources. Summit is another. I have a Lokar on my 68 Torino and a B&M on my F150 6R80 that never came with one.

    Sandbox2.000 Suspension Build

I've actually had to torch those things out before. They just get stuck so bad a press won't get it done...even with the correct Rotunda tools. Stinks up the whole shop.

    Rear pinion shaft bolt-shaved head

That is an interesting solution Turdle...and I can see where that might really help! To get it cold, grab a can or two or 134A, use a can tap to spray it. Just don't tell the EPA... ;)

Blower keeps switching between dash vents and defrost when taking off..

This is an easy fix...but may take some time. Just start replacing all the vacuum lines to your HVAC system. Your car is old...this should be done anyway. Check your vacuum reservoir for leaks with a vacuum pump. (you should borrow one from O'Reilly's, etc to do this anyway) The only...

Odd issue with my 99 explorer

Good advice. Of course, the best option would be to perform a volume test...

Odd issue with my 99 explorer

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me. Pressure is not always a good indication. You need volume as well as pressure. You can easily have enough pressure, but no where near enough volume. This could be as simple as a fuel filter.

    Oil pan gasket removal...

î î î That is an outstanding idea!! And if you think carefully about where to cut it, (i.e. on the driver's side where the crank won't throw the oil), you can keep most of the oil away from the seam you create.

How to: Default Overdrive OFF modification

My first thought when I read this is did you use a harness, etc from a manual trans car? Do you have a copy of the factory wiring diagram manual? That would give you the pinouts for not only the wiring circuit, but the connectors as well. You would be able to check your signal right at the...

How to: Default Overdrive OFF modification

That's exactly what a TR7 is...a programmable relay. You can't beat it for price and functionality. And it's one helluva lot cheaper than a custom tune. Another alternative is a Baumann controller for the 4R70W. Again...one heck of a lot more money, but a lot of options there. I have one on...

How to: 4R70W Rebuild Diary Discussion, Questions, ETC

Jon...that is for a 2 wheel drive trans. Boy...it's been a while since I've been in one of those, but I'm betting you are pulling the transfer case and replacing that gasket you cut. I actually have that exact trans in storage. I'll see if I can't run over and take a look at it and see what's...

How to: 4R70W Rebuild Diary Discussion, Questions, ETC

Go on to eBay and do a search for "Rotunda". All kinds of factory tools at a discounted price will show up. Some sellers are trying to rape you...others are being very fair...so keep looking. Some of these tools are not factory though and can be bought in many different places for reasonable...

About to replace the A/C compressor

if you mean flush the system when you say "clean", then you will need a flushing agent. I assume your friend has all the tools necessary...such as a vacuum pump, flushing tools, etc. When you say "rust", that throws a huge flag. If there is rust in your system, then I wouldn't bother with...

Anti Theft Light Flashing On Dash , Car wont start.

I wonder why that would trigger the PATS light... I think I'm going to go out and duplicate that and see what happens. I find that very interesting.

Everything you wanted to know about: "Memory Seats"

Your seats should also have the memory feature. So you have some wiring to do. You will need to add the memory switch to your door as well. I have no idea what harness you have under your dash, but I would be surprised if it's the harness for the seats. What you need to do is get the...
