Take a 3 lb sledge and a HD flat chisel and knock the crap out of it. If its still stuck, soak it in PB Blaster, have a couple beers, then heat it with a torch and go back with the sledge. If that doesnt work, get a bigger sledge ;D Make sure you secure the arm in a vise or something.

Check the OD fuse on the drivers side of the dash. My 96 has 200k and the OD wire had rubbed thru on the steering column- causing a short and the fuse to blow.

Stick a small screwdriver in each hole in the block to measure the depth of the threads. You can determine which bolt goes where from there. Before putting in your "new" trans, you should change the filter, oil, front pump seal, and also inspect the t/c for excessive play. The old t/c should...

Is the truck 4x4? If so, you may want to inspect the transfer case. Have them pull the diff cover off and inspect for shavings or chunks of metal.

No prob ER, drop the pan and see what you find. If its just clutch sediment, then take off the servos and inspect for brittle or broken parts of the servo. Also inspect the servo bores to make sure there arent any deep scratches etc. If there are metal chunks in the pan, that would be a bad sign...

Did you replace or rebuild the valve body? Did you replace the servos too?

Just a few questions, but did you're OD light flash when it was stuck in 3rd? Did u ever scan for codes? How did you come to the conclusion that the trans is beyond repair?

Have you tried pushin in on the servo cover? I was lucky enough to get those suckers out when I had the VB dropped. There was a little access space where I could stick the pick in and push the servo free. Remember, PB Blaster is your best friend- WD40 is your fake friend ;]

Wayne, welcome to EF! Has the trans been serviced regularly? The least you can do is drop the pan, change the filter, refill with new trans fluid, and flush the old stuff out. Best bet would be to go to a junkyard and strip a manual off a donor. ECU, linkages, crossmembers, etc...

I've heard of bands breaking, causing a loud BANG. Drop the pan and see what you find. If there's just sediment, maybe a band adjustment will help. If there's chunks of metal, then start looking to rebuild. Just my 2 cents...
