SOS URGENT! Installed new transmission and slipping????

So I just installed a remanufactured transmission from a place out of Texas. I got it all back in and drove it down the road and now its slipping on and off?!? What did I do wrong, does it have something to do with the torque converter?

2001 V8 AWD front end noise upon acceleration

It's definitely a whine not a vibration. I checked the drive shafts for play and they are both solid...and wouldn't you believe it. When I bought the car the rear diff had small wet spot on the under side of it, so I drained the fluid and cleaned it out real well and back in went the 75w-140...

2001 V8 AWD front end noise upon acceleration

Storlied, have you made an attempt to repair yours or are you just putting up with the noise. I honestly have no idea how to attack the front diff. The rear was fairly easy for me when I put all new bearings in it. Do you have any advice??

2001 V8 AWD front end noise upon acceleration

Hi all, I recently purchased a 01' awd ex with 185,000 miles on it. The ex has a "winding up" noise upon acceleration from 0-25mph, after that it disappears and rides like a dream. I also noticed that when I went up a hill (on the road) yesterday the noise became louder. What do you all think...

    SOHC ,oil leak on crossmember?

The new seal didn't ever fix my leak but a new upper oil pan gasket did. The oil was leaking right near the front crank which is why I replaced the front main seal turned out I didn't have enough rtv near the crank when I installed the gasket with the new long block

Need opinions on how to fix 8.8 Rear End (few options)

Point taken, when I performed my rebuild I removed the pinion gear and installed new bearings as well as a new crush sleeve which is why i mentioned that he would need an in/lb torque wrench, but you must have not seen that. An in/lb torque wrench is the only way to "set-up" a pinion once it has...

Need opinions on how to fix 8.8 Rear End (few options)

I just thought that I should let you know that rebuilding your rear end is not as difficult as you would think it would be. I didn't know a lick about rear ends when i did a rebuild on my 3.73ls. There is a write up on it if you do a google search and the parts are about $80 as long as your...

98 Explorer AWD transmission tail shaft diisassembly

Hey, I am just curious if you have made any headway on your leak. I found a leak where the t case and tranny meet up. I plan on taking the pull apart and see what is broken and fix it route. What all seals and gaskets did you replace and have you had any luck this far?

    Balance Shaft myth debunked!!

Just wanted to post an update on the 4wd ex with a 2wd sohc engine. 11,000 miles after install and she still runs like a dream

    Balance Shaft myth debunked!!

Well fellow xplorers, it seems as if we have finally put this myth to bed about negative side effects of 2wd engines in 4wd xplorers. I have been driving my 98' xplorer for 3,000+ miles now with a non-balance shaft motor in a 4wd X and no negative side effects

Front driveshaft bolt stripped any ideas??

I ended up giving up on pulling the front driveshaft off. The one thing i did think of was to grind the bolts off and then use a broken bolt extractor to remove the remains of the threads still in the pinion flange. For install you would just need to find some new compatible bolts.

    Balance Shaft myth debunked!!

Well I have put a engine without a balance shaft in a 4wd ex and I get a vibration between 2.3k to 2.5k rpms. it only happens when under load, but I wouldn't say that it is a bad vibration at all, most passengers wouldn't even notice it unless I had told them. I talked to one guy who told me...

Front driveshaft bolt stripped any ideas??

I have already broken two of them and those two suckers won't budge, I turned them so hard they both sheared straight off, I sprayed the bolts down with wd-40 too

Front driveshaft bolt stripped any ideas??

hi guys I have a 98 explorer 4wd and I was taking off the front driveshaft to get the t case off and two of the bolts I can't get off. there are 4 bolts two of which i got off, and the other two are stripped. The bolts have a spot to use a star bit, the two stubborn bolts were so tight that they...

    3.55 gears to 4.10 questions

Ok, thanks guys. I have already done a diff rebuild before so I know about the backlash setting using the dial indicator and well as pinion preload with the in lb torque wrench. It does seem that swapping the carriers, pinion gears, bearings, shims and having to get all my specs right again...

    3.55 gears to 4.10 questions

Hey guys, I have a 4wd autotrac 98 explorer that has 3.55 gears unfortunately and am looking at upgrading to some 4.10s. I know I will have to at least change the carriers out of the front and back diffs, my question is do I have to swith the pinion gears as well? I am looking to put 31x10.50s...

Broken plastic hoses on '91 explorer xlt 4.0 v6

The only hoses I know of back there run from the throttlr body to the PCV valve, don't know if that helps or not

    transmission swap proplem

Well first off, did the transmision work fine before it was pulled from the donor car? The only things that come to mind are 1) not enough oil, so stuck in the last gear it was used in 2)Front clutch pack is toast or 3) the valve body is plugged

    Balance Shaft myth debunked!!

Well said gijoe. I just talked to a ford tech at a dealership, and he said it sounds like the guy with two bad 2wd donors had the common timing chain issue with the first engine ,and that the second engine had the motor mounts coming loose. His opinion is that I should have nothing to worry...

    Balance Shaft myth debunked!!

point taken fellas, I talked to a guy who has had (2) 2wd engines go south on him in a 4wd; I am now eating my words. he said the first one had no vibration but had the timing chain go. The second engine started out with a little vibration and then two months later it felt like a washing machine...

Engine swap 2wd SOHC in 4wd HELP!!

ok well that really stinks. How many miles did the first engine have on it before the timing chain went out? I am hoping this problem with the engine was an inevitable thing despite it possibly shaking itself to this point. how about the second engine?? From you experience, do you really think...

    Balance Shaft myth debunked!!

Well the myth was one of irregular vibrations in the 2,000-3,000 rpm range, that myth is busted. Many folks were worried about negative side effects, I am just here to show them that I have done the swap and experienced none. It is not to say that it may be better to have it, because clearly the...

    Balance Shaft myth debunked!!

Well first off, the "myth" about the balance shaft is that when a 2wd SOHC(no balance shaft) is placed in a 4wd SOHCs place that had a balance shaft, a vibration in a certain RPM range will be noticeable(or possibly other damaging side effects). I took on this project and busted the myth. Many...

    Balance Shaft myth debunked!!

No sure haven't, but the balance shaft is in no way shape or form connected to the transmission or transfercase anyhow, so the engine isn't going react different during 2wd vs 4lo when around 2,000-3,000 RPM range. The myth of vibration would technically occur all the time the car was running in...
