Madbutchers ****machine sas

Ok. . So i got a deal last night on a set of axles and i took it

It is a hp d44 from a 90 ford econline 4x4 build by a company in Canada (don't remember the name of the company ) and a rear dana 60 + 4 wheels
All cost me $545

This build will be slow and i have no rush. . Might take 3 months and might take 3 years :D

Plan is simple. . Gears and lockers front and rear. .
Get it bolted together and wheel it :D

$545 for those axles would be a steal in the U.S., in Norway it's probably close to a miracle!!

It was a miracle :D
Best thing is that the axles is located 5 houers from me. But the guy that sells will take the axles to Oslo for me so i only need to drive 2 houers to get them

Time to collect parts :D

here are some pictures the seller sent me of the D44:thumbsup:

Could some one help me with some good locker options for the axles?
Guess the D44 is from a F150 and reverse cut?

A reverse cut ring and pinion set is not hard to find and does not effect type of locker you can use.

The only exception being a Detroit true-trac. If you choose the True trac you just have to remove the end caps and put the left one into the right and the right into the left including the worm gears. Sounds complicated but YouTube videos abound on the procedure.

Also be sure to verify the locker is compatible with the gear ratio choice. Again most fit 3:73 and lower. Higher ratios such as 2:73 get to crowded as the ring gear thickness gets larger. I'm sure you'll be going with 4:56 so should be no problem with even the larger locker designs.

Simple "lunch box" lockers work with nearly anything but are a horrible driving experience. For best on highway performance and least steering pull it's the True-trac hands down. For select-able full locker and ease of install the e-lockers rule.

Any brand will have several solutions for the D44 front. (left side diff)

This online store is not the only choice of course but you can use it to get some research done..

For snow the True-trac wins again.

Auto lockers and lunch box are undriveable in snow.

So, e-locker, air-locker or True-trac would be the best all round choice.

I see 8 lugs in one of your pictures, so that's a 3/4 ton axle, not an F150.
Looks like the axles are still on the vehicle? If you can, get everything you can. Radius arms, steering, coils, etc.

I will get all the arms and brackets;)
Don't know if i get the stearing
The explorer will be a trail rigg only so a lunchbox locker will be ok.

How would 16.5x12 with 3.5" backspace look?
I want to runn wide tires:thumbsup:

They have any laws about tire and body clearance in Norway?
Those tires would be sticking way out there! Also put more strain on the wheel bearings.

Yes we have. My Explorer is not legal now. We can only go 5% bigger than stock
So we keep the stock wheels and tires and have them as backup to inspection

Looks like the guy was wrong. . Now he tells me its not a dana 60 rear but a dana 70. .. is it still a good idea or should i look for somthing else?

Nothing wrong with a 70, just a little stronger than a 60.
