Getting ready for Water Pump R&R on 2000 Eddie Bauer 4.0 SOHC

Will be replacing the water pump on my 2000 Eddie Bauer with a 4.0 SOHC (Towing package). I've read that possibly the radiator may need to come out as to provide the necessary clarence to get the water pump out. Is this the case? what setup / packages / trim requires that extra step of pulling...

    “LED Look” Taillights

I recently saw these taillights listed on eBay and decided to give them a try as I doubt anyone will ever make full LED taillight assemblies for second gen explorers. These taillights still use bulbs but the lens makes it look like an LED assembly. Running light: Brake light: Side...

    Broken Ground Strap - Hood

My headlights and interior lights have had a slight flicker for a while which has gotten worse recently. I think this broken ground strap may be the problem. Has anyone changed this before? Unfortunately it’s riveted to the hood so I can’t remove it easily. I see a hole were I could try to...

    Lift Spindle Bearings

Edit: The bearings fit I just had to press them on a little. I got lift spindles on eBay but the seller didn’t mention if you can use stock size bearings with them. I know some spindles require you to run f150 bearings instead. Is this where the stock bearings usually sit on the spindle? They...

    Headlights/Dash Lights Flickering

I noticed recently that my headlights and dash lights have a slight flicker at idle, when in drive. It goes away if I raise the rpm’s or if I turn the truck off. I had the alternator tested and it was fine, but I noticed that when I tested with my multimeter the voltage would jump around. It...

Upper Intake Torque Specifications for OHV?

I need to replace my upper intake gaskets that are leaking. I looked in my old Haynes manual and these are the torque specs. They seem kind of low with the upper intake nuts torqued to 12 ft lbs. While the studs to the block are torqued to just 84 inch lbs which is 7 ft lbs. The other torque...

    Aftermarket Fender Flares

I found these fender flares on eBay and ordered a set of 4 for $70. They’re polished steel and seem to be well made. They’re attached with screws and even have a rubber gasket. I’ll be painting them black and installing them this weekend and will post photos when I’m done. They don’t seem to...

    National Differential Axle

I’m looking to buy a remanufactured 4.10 rear axle and came across a company called National Differential. They seem to have good reviews based on google. They’re asking $1500 for a reman 4.10 LSD + $250 shipping. But at that price I think it’d be better to buy from a more established company...

    Slamming hood to close it.

So I’ve had my Explorer for over 10 years now and have always had to slam the hood to close it. Unlike other cars where you lower it and push down. My hood just bounces back up unless I slam it. Is this how it is for everyone else?

    Refrigerant Leak?

I noticed over the years that this part of the AC hose is covered in what looks like oil. It’s gotten worse and the AC feels warmer. Has anyone had a leak in that area before? I’m wondering how common it is. I see the replacement on rock auto for $50 but I’d like to get an opinion before I order it.

    Strange Oil Gauge Issue

My oil gauge is going crazy lately when I accelerate and moves a bit at idle. This has happened before because my original oil switch broke. But after replacing it the problem went away. That was a few years ago. This time my oil gauge is going crazy but only when my battery gauge is low...

2000 Ford Explorer XLT 4 door Center Console Removal?

The forum search feature doesn't seem to work (just gives me errors when I try to search for anything). What is the trick with removing the center console? I found various instructions, removed all of the bolts/nuts, and then hit the center bracket backwards to push to console back "at least 2...

    Fuel Pump Dead

I replaced my fuel filter today so I used the method were you pull the relay to the pump while it’s running to remove pressure from the lines. That definitely worked as I changed the filter and the lines were depressurized. But now my pump isn’t turning on, I don’t hear the usual whirl sound and...

    Shock Advice Needed

I recently installed lift keys on my X and gained about 3” of lift. The stock length RS9000’s feel like they’re over extended. I see that Cherokee shocks use the same mount types as the Explorer with a stem top mount and a bar pin bottom mount. Has anyone used Cherokee shocks on their Explorer...

    Question about swapping axle gears.

I’m thinking of changing my 3.55 gears to 3.73 gears. I’d like to change the gears instead of swapping the whole axle. Is a kit like this all I would need? I’d like to re-gear to run 32’s and 4.10’s aren’t an option for me. Thanks for any input...

    Crooked torsion bar bolt?

:confused2: I noticed that one side of my truck is sitting higher than the other when I went to install front sway bar links. Do I have to re-seat the bracket that the torsion bolt goes through? I know it definitely shouldn’t be crooked.

    Camshaft Synchronizer Question 4.0 OHV

I’ve got the infamous camshaft synchronizer squeaking sound on cold starts. I had a shop replace the lower intake and camshaft synchronizer gaskets last week and the truck has developed a squeaking sound in the rear of the engine. I took the belt off and the sound is still there. The mechanic...

    Second Gen Cabin Air Filter

I’ve been wondering how feasible it would be to install a cabin air filter in a second gen. I see that the door goes up and closes off the highlighted area when Max AC is selected, so that must mean that’s where outside air is pulled in. I don’t have ac diagrams and have never taken apart...

    Max AC Heat Adjustment

Does everyone else’s Max AC get warmer if they turn the ac dial to heat? My normal AC gets warmer as I turn up the heat, but I can have the heat all the way up during Max AC and it’ll still be really cold air. From what I understand Max AC only differs since it recirculates air from the cabin...
