I’m looking for the collective opinion of all of the explorer professionals here. A little background: I had a new Jeep Wrangler I sold to a dealer just because I didn’t want a car note AND used car prices are so ridiculous they paid me what I paid for it after 2 years and adding 40k miles to...

Still having problems with my 2000 5.0 Explorer

I bought a 5.0 AWD Explorerin the late summer, 2020 to replace the '04 that needed timing chains. I love 302's, but I wish I would have just spent thatmoney fixing the '04 Explorer. Since I got it registered, it has been nothing but trouble, which shouldn't be normal for a 5.0. It has been...

    2014 explorer XLT shuddering

Hi I have a 2014 Explorer XLT 3.5 NA. When I accelerate around 2nd-4th gear with light throttle I feel a shudder. It’s light but noticeable. Only around 2200-2800 RPM. Feels similar to a torque converter engaging and disengaging, only it happens about twice every second. When I accelerate harder...

A simple question i think. My viscous coupler is bad is binding up on sharp turns. Before I spend the money for a new one or used transfer case, does anyone know if adding a friction modifier to the fluid or replacing the existing fluid with the Ford transfer case fluid would free up the...

My 97 Mountaineer AWD has pretty much every option except the tow package (go figure). I have a ball installed on the bumper, but obviously there is no hitch assembly and unless it's well hidden, there is no lighting hookups. How should I go about wiring up a wiring harness? At the very least I...

    Differential Swaps

I received a few diagnoses that both my front and rear diffs are on their way out, my options are either to rebuild them, or replace them with used parts found at a yard. I don't have the funds to rebuild right now nor do I have the money to pay for labor. I'm pretty experienced with auto...

Hi all, I have a 1996 Explorer V8 XLT AWD, and it has 206,000 miles. It has had conventional oil changes all it's life, but I was wondering If switching to synthetic would be a good idea. I like the idea of longer change intervals, and better protection, but I'm worried it will start leaking...

1997 AWD Front Hub Bolt Size and/or Part Number

Does anybody know the size and/or part number of the 3 bolts that hold the hub on a 1997 AWD explorer/mountaineer? Mine were really rusted and I broke the head off one while changing the half axle. Don't really want to buy a new hub just to get the bolts. It appears to be 2.5" and about .5".

    Grinding noise by drive shaft

I bought this 1997 ford explorer awd from this guy and ive had a lot of issues but we cannot figure out this one issue. It sounds like bearings grinding or something catching around the drive shaft in the front. I dont want to make assumptions and spend money on parts and having it not be right.
