'00 Explorer 4x4 Gears Slip @ 25 MPH & Reverse!!!

Hey guys.


I have come to this forum once again to ask for help with my truck.

For about a week now the truck has been slipping when I use reverse. It makes a loud screeching - whining noise.

It also does the same thing if I have it about 3K rpms at ~25mph.

This morning it has stopped going into second gear at all and if I need to drive over 25 it kicks back down into first.

Am I in need of a new tranny?

Please help not driving at the moment.

Oh yeah...

And the Over-Drive Light is flashing.

Sounds like the tranny is or has failed.

If that is the case what does it generally cost to have rebuilt/replaced.

The truck has 120k so it is probably worth repairing.
