I've got a 2000 Sport with a bad front diff. The one I'm pulling out is
a 4.10 open. I found a 4.10 ,that from his discription, is a locker.
He said it has vacuum hoses and electric wires coming out of it. I'm
not planning on hooking it up any time soon. So my question is, will
it be like a regular diff. or what?

Thanks Ed

No, it's not a locker... sounds like the stock front diff out of a 95-96. Your truck isn't set up to use the center axle disconnect that's on the other one. I would pass on it if you were trying to simply swap out the whole axle assembly. Some of the internals, like the ring, pinion, carrier, and spider gears may be compatible, but the axle shaft won't be, and it may not have the proper yoke on the pinion for the later front shafts (not sure if the u-joint/double-cardan shaft from a 95-96 uses a different u-joint than the CV/u-joint front shaft of a 97-up).

What's wrong with yours that can't be rebuilt?

My old one howls when in 4wd . When I opened it up there is no damage
visible. I was going to take the quick way out,and just replace it, pluthe guy only wants 300.00 for his.
I am going to look at it this morning. If my short shafts fit, will it work or is it still a no go?

Did Ford put a 4.10 axle in a 95/96? I know my 95 EB is 3.73's.

Ask where the lines are wires are. If it's on the right end of the axle housing, Joe has it pegged dead on the money.

It is extremely unlikely that it has a locker. The E-Locker, ARB, etc., have never been made that fit our Dana 35. So the seller is either trying to rip people off or he doesn't know WTF he's talking about.

I haven't seen it yet, but he says it has vacuum hoses and wires coming
out of it. Called him just a minute ago ,he says he's got a '97 coming
this afternoon that has a open 4.10 in it. So I'll probably go with that one.
