Hey i'm trying to put together a new exhaust system for my 2000 Sport. I would like dual exhaust (2 mufflers) one on each side)Dual outlets would be nice to heh (Quad!!)Anyone with a sport redo their exhaust system? Let me know how you did it. I'm interesting in getting probably the 50 series flowmasters. I don't want anything really loud... Hit me with any comments, suggestions, instructiosn etc....The oem muffler size for the sport is 2 1/2 " right? Also looking for new cat converters to help with the flow. (explorer requires 2) Anyone have any links with good prices on these as well as good mufflers etc...

One problem. It's against federal law to replace cats that are less than 5 years old and/or severly damaged. Realistically they hardly ever check these things, but if your state does the annual inspections it could happen.

oh yea it's illegal but if you have 50k+ on the truck it's ok.. I should have 50k by my next inspection so it's okay. Oh by the way my truck is the 4.0L sohc...

Then in that case, check with Random Technologies. They make high-flow cats for just about everything.

how's the flowmaster 50 delta on your x? I think i may purchse 2 of those... It's not to loud right?

any reason you went with the delta instead of the 50 suv?

The Delta 50 just happens to be almost the exact same size as the stock. Also, the SUV is basically just a bigger version of the 50. It also has the delta baffles. It's just bigger, not really better. It's more for the bigger V8's, not our 6's.

Otherwise, I'm very happy witht he Flowmaster. It sounds great, without being too loud. It's really mellow sounding. Not too annoying at highway speeds.

Hmm i see, anyone try dynomax mufflers on their X?

i have heard the dynomaxes are good... but have also heard they are rather loud.....

my setup is a single 2.25 in/out flowmaster 40 non-delta with a 6" long exit pipe of 2.5" than it just dumps... it is way too loud... but i love it ;)

i am not 100% sure on the newer ones, but i know that the first generation stock explorer cats are pretty high flow units already, and shouyldnt need replacing, unless you already have a muffler, headers, etc

I love my 50 series flowmaster :D

yea the dynomax gets loud aka the ultraflow. The superturbo is quieter, but less airflow i think. So i guess my best bet will be ging with the 50 series delta flowmaster. I would like dual exhaust, but do you think i should get one muffler with dual outlets and fit them around to come out one on each side or get 2 mufflers with single outlets? The airflow wouldn't be restricted if i ran a single muffler for a dual exhaust right? Wouldn't 2 mufflers mean more power/airflow? Of course if you really wanna be "bad" possibly 2 mufflers each with dual outlets heh.... Let me know thanks....

anyone know if my oem muffler is dual in?

Yes. I believe the SOHC has a dual in/single out muffler. You could just get a dual/dual and run the second pipe to the other side. Much, much easier than trying to add in a second muffler. You may have to loose the spare to do that.

My OHV has a single in/single out. I used 2.5 inch piping. You could do the dual in dual out with 2.25" piping. Remember, there is such a thing as too little backpressure.

i can't seem to find dual in/out flowmaster 50's ... Do you know the product # or link with them?

Hey, I just returned your private message with the part # and a link to the listing for it at flowmasters website. I have heard that the cats on the SOHC are already hi-flow and I'm pretty sure I saw 4 of them on my truck. Anyway, I say go with the 50 SUV dual in/dual out. After about 3 months, after it breaks in, you will absolutly love it!!

I got a single in duel out 50 series with 3" tips out the back. It sounds great. Mine is a 2001 Sport with a SOHC

Your SOHC only has one pipe going into the muffler? Is it big? I wonder if its that way on the sports only or if Ford redesigned it.

First, you should have two cats on your SOHC.

Second, I remember seeing other posts that in either '00 or '01 Ford redesigned the SOHC to a single in/single out muffler. My '97 SOHC Sport has a dual in/single out muffler. Maybe they had too many complaints from people trying to change the tranny fluid with the converter right underneith it.

I thought I had 4 cats. 2 not far from the exhaust manifold and 2 about 1' from the muffler.

I can't think of anywhere Ford would have put them. There isn't room unless they totally changed things around from '97 to '98. Mine only has one cat per exhaust manifold. One is between the transmission and frame. The other is right underneith the transmission. There isn't enough room on mine to have any extras. The OHV has two smaller cats but they are one after the other between the 'Y' adapter and the muffler.
