'01 ST with Rear View Camera/DVD/TV/ and more to come!

Ok, I finally got a bunch of stuff installed in my Explorer ST. I don't have the Before pics, but I am sure that most of you out there with late model explorers can imagine!

I placed a rear view camera in the third brake light of the truck. The video is fed to a 6.8" LCD monitor in place of the rear view mirror. I also have the ability to display TV (Ch 3-69), DVD, and will soon have my night vision system working!!! A lot of crap to fit into the dash!

I installed a computer in my car, custom made and it has over 1,600 songs on it right now. I will be expanding to a larger hard drive soon and i will be able to put all 5,000 of my mp3s on it. It sounds awesome!! I used Aux. input and it blew me away. Ive been into mp3 computer setups for a while now. This thing also does visulization which beats to the music, divx, music video's, and gps. The screen i have it running on is a 5" lcd. I might get a 7" widescreen soon. I know of a place that has em complete for $200.

Love the Camera

Great idea with that camera, Where is the Monitor located in the car? Was it hard to do?

Where do you get night vision and how much does it cost?

The monitor is in place of the rear view mirror. The mirror was removed and an LCD put in place of it.

TRUE Infra red nightvision is quite expensive. You can pick up the Raytheon FLIR systems for about $5k!!! I used NEAR Infra red. This is more like the Sony "Nightshot" cameras and camcorders. These systems actually broadcast IR and can "see" that with special cameras. Most B&W CCD cameras are IR sensitive. I just picked up the new Sony one. It is full color in the day time, and converts to B&W (nigtshot) at night. The cost of these systems is not bad. You can buy a cheap IR sensitive camera for $50. The one I got was about $200.

Man I like that setup quite a bit!!! Your truck will be truly unique with night vision

Where can i buy one of these cameras? I am seriously thinking about get a rear view camera. thanks

Try Supercircuits.com for most of your camera needs. I am still trying to find a place that sells my rear view camera tot he public. I was able to get it through work.
