I have an 02 explorer. I am looking for a different look. I want to lower the front and leave on 16's I want to put the widest 18's in the back to fill the wheel well. Just a thought, I know it is not a standard look, but I am not a stand person. Any comments

oh wow........

if its an awd or auto 4x4 you will brake your truck doing a hotrod look

Jim/Explorer...
Thanks for the response...

It is RWD. Can't really do anything else. Can't go off road. No sense in raising it. Do lots of Highway driving. The lowered front "may" reduce some drag under the truck and improve MPG a little. The main thing is at least people will give me a second look, even if it is a scrowl..... Too many Chrome Rim jobs out there now. Do not even notice them any more.....Do not want a lowered Ricer. A 50's look may start a trend...... Or not......

Why do you think AWD or 4x4 will brake the truck? I do know I will need a chip to recalcuate the mileage calcs due to the larger tires.... I also think there may be extra force on the front brakes, could they fail? I am not looking for a major difference fron to back, like 4 inches in the drop. 2 down in the front and 2 up in the back (Bigger tires) . Now that I put in writing, 4 inches may be a lot...Maybe I need to drop Front and Back to make only a 2 inch drop. The front will be dropped and the back will be offset by the larger tires ( 2 inch drop and 2 inch larger tires- to fill the well)

Guess you're looking to do something like this? :)

Sort of

Thanks Mike,
Sort of. Looking for bigger tires in the back. To fill the well. And lower profile in the front. At least 12 inches wide in the back....

How did you lower the front?

Special Photoshop Springs :) Here's another version for you.

Mike,

Thanks... The back will have more rubber, less rim.... What do you think of the look??

With AWD/4WD you need to run the same size tires front and back or risk ruining the transfer case. Since yours is 2WD, it isn't an issue for you.

Those Photoshop springs look like they might have ride issues....

Put DOT slicks on the rear. :P

One of my dads classic stories from growing up was when one of his buddies in high school did that to his truck. Worked fine untill he threw it in 4x4 one day... Funny, if i remember corectly it was the same guy that peeled out of the lot in a camaro straight into a tree across the street.

as far as the look goes if thats your cup of tea then go for it.

i wanna know how to lower the front of an explorer too, you can only drop 2 or 3 inches before bottoming out... mine's a sport so i got the single leaf spring in the back. i got prolly another inch i can drop in the back, but the front is as low as it can go... x_x

wow... you sure brought this one back from the dead.
