I've got a pair of '02 heated seats that I want to put into an older car that I'm building and can't seem to figure out the heated seat wiring.

From the heated seat plug I have 4 wires that I'm unsure what to do with 1) orange 2) black 3) purple/orange 4) black/yellow.

If anyone has any advice, a diagram or information on where to get a diagram it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jacob

Bump. I also need to know this. actualy i need to know what the back two plugs do and how to wire them. the seat was power but its going into a 96 ranger and im just going to use the manual seat bracket.

You don't need a diagram, it won't help. The button switch is useless without the entire hvac module. The plug needs to be cut off. The wires from the heating elements need to be located and you'll need to add your own switch. Its just like completing a circuit. The passenger seat is simple positive and negative for the seat movement. The driver seat due to the memory seats not so straightforward. I made my own wiring harnesses, and some of what is there is useless. I put some of these seats in my 96 a few years ago. The amount of time spent on fabricating the mounting brackets let alone the wiring for the drivers seat. Hind sight I would have never done it. These seats are some of the most pathetic when it comes to comfort. But hey, they look good.

Well, I installed a set of Aviator seats that were heated AND cooled. Once you have the switches, everything else was self contained in the seats. (those switches also incorporate a temp setting) The modules, everything are in the seats. Navigator seats are even easier because the switch is on the seat itself. Find a factory wiring diagram for the year and model of the seats. I'm betting you can come up with something to work from that.

I have access to Mitchell's and Alldata and trust me it is LITTLE help. You'll find out that the temperature control module is located under the left dash panel along with the junction box and is not located in the seats. Go bet on it.

I don't like either one of those sources for wiring diagrams. You can find the Ford manual on eBay for less than $20 in most cases.

Funny about your 02 seats not being self contained like that. The 03 Aviators were...and so are the Navigators. Maybe it's because they are cooled seats too that makes the difference

Just for grins and giggles, I looked up heated seats on a 99 and everything is self contained in the seats. Sorry, but I don't have an 02 manual for the Explorer...

Okay i went to the junkyard to check and see what year the ex i got the seats from is and it was a 01. Is this gonig to be the same as the 02? im gonig to post pics of the wiring so maby someone can tell me what they are. Heavymentill can you help me know what wires were used? i have the 96 so if you an tell me what you did it would help alot. pics would be greatly appreciated : ) o and i have no interest in the power seat motors hookup. just the heated part

You will need to hook up the power to the seat motors because that is how you move the seat forward and backwards. And the 01 seats should be easier to put in your 96 than 02 seats would have been.

I dont have the motors because im gonig to put the seats on my manual movement frames that i have in my truck already. i dont like te idea of havig the motors move my seats every time i want to put someone in the back. i just need to know how to wire up the heat.

Aviator Seats for a HOT ROD project

Okay Ya'll:

I'm sticking a set of 02 cooled Aviator seats in a hotrod and want to know just what I'm looking at to make them function.

I have the seats and all the door panels (that contain the switches) so
what else do I need?

bump. i just need to know the hot and ground wires for the 01 explorer heated seats. no motors. can anyone help me plz?

These are the wire color codes for the modules under both seats.

Sensor return -BRN/ LT BLU
Switch -DK GRN/ PPL
Heat Feed - YEL/ LT BLU
Power - LT BLU/ WHT
Heat Return - PPL/ LT BLU
Power - GRY/ YEL
Snsr Feed - BLK/ LT BLU
Ground - BLK
Illum Sw - ORG

The sensors are built into the heating element.
I would start by putting power to both the LHT BLU/ WHT and GRY/ YELLOW and grounding out the BLACK.

One more thing the LHT BLU/ WHT is 30amp fuse the GRY/ YEL is 7.5amp. Look at the plug for connecting points.

Another thing 02 and 01 seats are not in any way wired the same.

Okay thanks alot. ill have to try and figure this out tonight

Also, there was no 02 Aviator. First year was 03. So make sure you're looking at the right diagrams. You can't use Explorer diagrams.

03 Aviator seats in a hotrod

Whoops! Yes, they are 03 seats and NO - there is no wiring harness. Where should I look for diagrams and maybe even the plugs?

I just bought a 2003 Ford Motor Company Lincoln Aviator Wiring Diagram BOOK. A whole book of every wire, circuit, connector, etc.

Got it on eBay !

SO that means that they make this type of BOOK for every model, right?

They make it for every model I've ever needed...and that's a lot. My family owned a Ford dealership for a lot of years...so I am fortunate to have a good library. It's priceless in cases like this.

I went to the Motorcraft site and bought the correct pigtails for the harnesses I had to build on my own. Those damn things are VERY expensive from Ford. But they are complete, fully loaded, and come with shrink wrap, premium wire, the whole thing. So they are probably worth it. Motorcraft had everything I needed except one connector...which I found on another car at a salvage yard. By now, they might even have that one. There are hundreds of them available now.
