Hello everyone;

About a month and a half ago my CEL decided to come on. I had the codes pulled. Bank 2 upstream o2 sensor. A few days after I had it diagnosed, the cel turned itself off. My Fuel economy has not changed @ all in that time.

A couple of days ago, the cel came back on. I have not noticed a dip in my fuel economy as of yet. Should I change it guys?

What I was thinking of doing was to continue to drive it and if no change in fuel economy was noticed, just leave it as is. Do you guys think that is a good idea.... after all their is a reason why the ecu is throwing out a CEL light at me.

I have read on this board that if you change on 02 sensor, then I should change both, or all four. I have never heard of this before at all. Is this true?

Oh yea, my truck has about 85k miles on it or about 135 km.

Thanks for any input.

Thank you for the reply.

However, if you read my post carefully, I am not asking how to go about replacing the O2 sensor, but rather if I should bother replacing the part if my fuel economy isn't effected at all.

Also, can anyone comment on the replacing of the 2 or all 4 of my O2 sensors if only 1 is faulty? As I have mentioned, I have never heard of this before. I found this info through a search. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I think I may also phone a few mechanics tommorow to see if this is true.

Thoughts?

Before you spend money on a new O2 sensor, monitor its function.

Many times an O2 code is the result of an other problem.

Good luck ....

BHop,

Let me first off.........apologize to you.........if I came off sounding "negative" to you.

So, that being said.........You, in your 2nd post said:

My quick response from my first post was:

I would do it..........Check Engine Lights bugs me.

In your 2nd post, you continued on:

Also, can anyone comment on the replacing of the 2 or all 4 of my O2 sensors if only 1 is faulty? As I have mentioned, I have never heard of this before. I found this info through a search. Can anyone shed some light on this?

With All Due Respect to You........My response is:

You know which sensor is suppose to be bad (per the computer)........you could either: leave it as is, change only that single sensor or change both as suggested by the post from jtsmith: (earlier, he said)

I would be tempted to replace the bank 1 sensor also, it is a bit trickier to get the plug.

In the end.............IF, you decide to take the computer's advice or anyones advice, is entirely up to you. Ask alot of people...........you get alot of opinions.

Will it all depend on, "Who you trust?" Or, "Do I have the money to replace more than one as suggested." Or, "I got my own idea, how to do this."

Whatever you decide, believe me, I harbored you no ill will when I said:

Hey, you're been askin' the same question............since June.
So, have a good one.

Aloha, Mark

PS............Yes, a second opinion is a welcomed booster to have, when it agrees with the first. However, when a second opinion dis-agrees with the first........"What you gonna do?" :mad: :D :mad: :D :mad: :D :mad: :D :mad: ........ :fire:

ma 96782;

I wasn't trying to sound angry, mouthy, or anything like that. I just wanted more in depth answers to my Q's, that's all. If you took my reply as offensive, rude, or anything like that, my apologies. I didn't mean to get you work up. I was trying to sound as polite as I possibly could, but still getting to the point.

lol never thought things get this serious on the Explorer Board! :eek:

Have you tried reseting the computer by disconnecting the battery yet. It may eliminate the CEL.

Snowborder42;

No I have not tried that this time around however, I did try that the first time it came on around this time last month, and nothing changed.

I had the same thing recently. Came on, went back off. Came back on, stayed on. Replaced the sensor that brought in the CEL and no more light for several months. Where I live they check for codes at a bi-yearly emissions test. And eventually the CEL light may burn out. Cannot think of any reason to change any that aren't throwing codes.

I could be wrong.

If it's the same in your state (or political subdivision).................just having a non-operation CEL (burnt bulb)...........could be an automatic reason for "failure."

PS...........STORY TIME

The other week I was at an automotive shop..........the tech guy had just finished running a scan on a newly purchased, used Honda (so called, certified).

The owner had it for a couple of days.......and observed a CEL. She had observed the CEL during the test drive...........and the dealer was supposed to have been fixed the problem prior to her taking possession. The light was out upon her getting it.

Auto shop owner said that, "OR, state law required the dealership to fix the problem prior to delivery of the vehicle." "Take it back, and have them try again," was his advice.

The next week the same lady was at the shop. This time she had a Subaru. I asked her about it.........she said she had the Honda, "Taken Back, by the dealership."

Update:

So I was on my way to an autoparts store within close distance to where I live, and then boom it happen. CEL turned it self off. This will probably be an ongoing process until I replace the part. I figure I will give it one more shot, and see what happens. It will be interesting to see how long it will take to come back on. The last time it was on was a month ago. Rather it would be to see how many km's it will take to come back on. Unfortunatly, I do not have any data to go by because as I did not expect the CEL to turn it self off last month.

All I can say is that it probably won't take many km's because I have been riding to work throughout the summer. I haven't been putting the same mileage on my X as I normally do.
