02 Stock Fogs Led Bulb?

Has anyone tried to put led bulbs in there stock fog lights? If so how is the visibility and are they brighter than the stock halogens? I was thinking something like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LED-...Q5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_2534wt_1165

Those LEDs are just for show. Anything that would use enough watts to produce a useable beam of light would require a separate driver and large heat sinks to maintain a stable heat/voltage. While LEDs don't produce much heat at all, the chips are very sensitive to heat, and it doesn't take much to overheat them. Watts of electricity, however, do create a lot of heat. To produce sufficient lumens, many more watts are necessary than those types of things run on.

That is the reason they only recommend them for use in High beams or fogs. They don't produce enough light to actually use them for forward lighting. You could tape a couple flashlights to your bumper and get the same amount of light those types of bulbs produce. While those types of plug and play LEDs are sometimes useable for marker lights and turn signals/brakes, forward lighting is an entirely different animal. That is why the very few LED headlights available cost upwards of $400 per bulb. Ever price an LED headlight for a Prius? Around $3000. That is just what it takes to get the kind of optics and electronics required, as well as the high output LEDs.

But yeah, those cheap plug and play LED modules compared to stock halogens..... I believe a similar analogy would be like farting into a hurricane.

Yea, LEDs are nice for show/taillight/blinker etc, but never as a headlight or driving light.


You would actually get more light using a flashlight.
