I have a 2003 XLT with the 4.6L V8 in it. The temperature gauge on the dash does not work and I am thinking it must be the sensor. I have not been able to locate the sensor to change it out. if anyone has any thoughts or can tell me where the sensor is I would greatly appreciate it.

Since no only else answered, I'll see if I can help, but I have not had any problems with it on mine yet so I have no experience with it (I watch this site a lot to learn) -- so, looking at my Chilton manual -- for the V8, it's called Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor (CHT) -- It's located in the valley between the cylinder heads (it's actually on the left head). The PCM uses the CHT sensor to monitor the operating temperature of the engine. (verbatim) For the V6 models, it's called Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor.
Maybe this one for the V8 -- http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/s...year=2003&make=Ford&model=Explorer&vi=5017115

Thank you very much for your assistance. looks like I'm going to have to remove some things to get to it.
